Don't know, this is a "mountain" bike newsgroup. We wear "mountain"
    bike lids.

Hey, speak for yourself Short-stack ;-P

Some of MTB with a giant shroom on our head

Could be wrong, but I think they give a little more overall protection
    than the average MTB lid.

It may be a little warm, but a Giro Semi MX may be an option for
you...if you can still find one from someone's '05 stock. Perhaps a
    Giro Flak (?)

I'm just tossing out ideas here... I've got a Semi and granted, I'm up
in Canada and winter riding makes a warmer helmet nice, but it does the
job without looking much like a mushroom.

Sheesh, the main drawback with winter riding here is the washboard when
"hikers" pack the trails I use to commute....big arm and fork
workout...makes you feel like you've run a jackhammer all day! At least
I haven't had any bad run-ins with frozen logs, branches or trees yet 🙂

Viva la frozen MTB palyground 😉

The reason the helmets looks like 'mushrooms' is due to their ability to
absorb shock needs both free air between your head and the helmet and a
thick wall of shock absorbing material. You could have a thin helmet,
but it wouldn't absorb a shock that good and give a false sense of
security. Espesially not doing tricks on a bmx bike - urban into the
concrete is painful enough with a decent helmet.

A bucket type would help on side and back impacts, a full face would be
best but it might be too much since you seem to care about the apperance.

So to be helpful, look at helmets like this:

They are very good, and doesn't look too bad either.

  8. I was looking around for this one, just counldn't find anyone that carried
    the dirt lid.

  9. You can always got with my new riding garb; the PASGT Helmet
It's a bit heavy, and the ventilation sucks, but it'll supposedly stop
a round from an AK-47 from 100 meters downrange.

  10. I've been wearing Skateboard and Kayak lids for years. Great
protection, good fit, and designed to handle more than one impact.
an added bonus is there are no elongated vebts to trap twigs/branckes
and jam them into your scalp causing lacerations. (DAMHIKT)
