Sounds like a tacit admission that the policy is not to reduce
overcrowding but to scupper any possibility of an integrated transport

Speaking as an ex-employer, the cost of employing someone is very
considerably more than their salary. Close to double, when you take all
the things like effective supervision, pensions, allowance for sickness
and injury, holiday cover, accommodation, training etc into account.

I thought that might be the case -- there are very few passengers with bikes
compared to South West trains. But I take my bike from Ramsgate to
Southampton (via London) every Friday -- not a peep from anyone. Though the
bloke at the ticket office did once ask whether I intended to put my bike on
the train (which I did) but no-one said anything once it was on board.
Perhaps no-one cares because it's the 05:29 train? Certainly not busy at the
Ramsgate end, and not what I'd call very busy when it gets to Chatham (last
stop before Victoria). Maybe the Gestapo have eased off since the initial
blitz on PWBs?

perhaps they've all been hired out to Southern?
They are probably not bothered about an 0728 arrival. One of my fellow
cyclist passengers has simply refused to comply; there is no platform
staff at his end and when he arrives as London they assume he has just
unlocked his normal bike from the platform, and on train staff are told
not to get involved.

It appears I'd confused Southern with the (currently state-owned) South
Eastern. My usual evening dopeyness comes to the fore once again... 🙂

However apparently Govia do, according to a request to know what they
were doing with the Thameslink units. After all they do get a fair
wedge in subsidy off the taxpayer

AKA "the SRA's train SET"
ISTR a newspaper article about how SET's performance figures and staff
satisfaction had improved considerably since being taken back from
Connex, and TPTB were very keen that this should not be played up in
case someone suggested that state owned train companies were a good
idea.
