MLB not likely to innvesigate allegations. What a surprise. Repeat
after me: "There is no problem, there is no problem..."
The Maris family is demanding an investigation and threatening to
bring suit against both Bonds and Mcgwire since they feel they have
been substantially damaged by doping. They have a solid economic case
    for asking the questions.

    Dumbass -

Canseco has the same profile problem as DeCanio. He doesn't have
    credibility.

Do I believe baseball has a performance enhancing drug problem? Yes,
every professional sport does. Do I believe everything Jose Canseco
says? No. A lot of what he says probably is true, but his behavior has
been so inconsistent that it's gotta be taken w/ a grain of salt.

    thanks,

    K. Gringioni.

If they don't file suit against Sosa as well, their damages/economic case
    will be a lot smaller.

They are planning to file against all three that have bettered the
    single season home run record.
Hope that at least the civil courts make this interesting.

What is your reference for the lawsuit threat? I only see where Maris'
son says the family will abide by the decision of major league baseball
and that McGuire is a "first-class individual".

It was rewritten as a serious current piece with quotes from the

Barry Bonds' Alleged Mistress Speaks Out
Now we've got some sex and violence to go with the drugs. This could
become a prime time special. Geraldo sure got to the bottom of that
Capone thing. He is just such a paragon of journalistic values.
As long as he's employed by Fox it is just impossible to take them
completely seriously, c'mon Geraldo as journalist and expert? CNN has
major problems but even they didn't run out and hire Springer who is
    probably more credible than Geraldo.

We can lump Geraldo in with Jose and DeCanio, credibility-wise.

"BELL: The only reason I did not go forward was because the attorneys that I
spoke to wanted upwards of $100,000 to prosecute this case for me."

Lots of focus on money and not a lot of knowledge in vocabulary.

All civil lawsuits are focused on money. LIFE is focused on money. I
don't necessarily agree that a focus on money detracts from one's
    credibility.

Well, thanks Bill. I must say that I checked in here before reading
the sports section of the NY Times, which is sitting on my dining room
    table.
I agree with what you say about Geraldo, who grew up in the same
neighborhood as I did (though I think back then he was better known as
Jerry Rivers). Of course, Springer was mayor of Cincinnatti, where my
    wife grew up.
And you gotta love that name, Aphrodite Jones!

    Reread.

    1) I said Geraldo's credibility, not Bell's.

    2) The story started as a testimonial about Bonds saying he used steriods,
then changed direction to how he dumped her and she wants money in addition
    to hawking a tell-all book.

    3) Bell needs to understand that you do not prosecute a civil suit, you
prosecute someone arrested for breaking a law. You do not pay prosecutors a
fee; they are paid by the government.

    4) Attorney's fees in civil lawsuits generally come as a percentage of the
amount the judge/jury awards, unless the attorney feels the case is
virtually without merit and the plaintiff is insistant on pursuing the case.
In that situation, attorneys usually ask for a set fee up front. In this
case, it may have been a $100k set fee. Sometimes attorneys will charge an
outrageous fee just to shut you up and get you out the door.

    dumbass,

you can't compare canseco and decanio. canseco may have done many
questionable things in the past but he's not totally irrational. for
example he doesn't claim an extensive conspiracy exists purely keep him
down or think he's the catcher in the rye (he was mostly a DH).

the main reason he doesn't have credibility is because he's not liked
    by baseball (media, fans, management).

he was at the top level of the sport for many years and teamates with
many of the top hitters he's accusing.

decanio has some first hand stories, which i believe, but he also, like
lafferty makes claims about people he doesn't have contact with.

Canseco has been in trouble for ramming his car into his wife's car and
having a loaded gun at a hospital. When he was on probation, he tested
    positive for 'roids.

Add to that: Canseco is trying to make $$$$ selling his book.

Maybe you missed Canseco blaming President Bush for drug use in major
    league baseball.

But compared to Decanio that's pretty tame.

    2) Yeah, but If I spent 10 years with someone worth $50 million and

    3) Her use of the word "prosecute" was just a simple mistake. She was
