  1. Amongst a host of road issues in the meedya, the last paragraph of this one accurately illustrates the shallow priorities of Melbourne's younger road users. Bloody callow whippersnappers.

Makes many of my cycling exploits (in search of food & beverages) look relatively tame by comparison.

    P-platers face phone ban
".....In some cases, they had held a licence for just a few weeks. Others offered feeble excuses for their behaviour. Last month, a 23-year-old Docklands P-plater booked at 206km/h on the Eastern Freeway at 3.10am told police he did not realise they would be working so late. And in June, an Altona P-plater, 19, nabbed doing 173km/h on the Princes Freeway at Laverton said he was going to Carlton for a kebab....."

What amazed me on last night's news ( or was it the night before) was
one of the P-platers being interviewed asked, if there was a phone ban,
what they were supposed to do if the phone rang. Hmmm, how about not
answer it, or even, get this for a radical idea ... turn it off (I know,
it's the work of a heretic).

I have lately been making calls and sending SMS's while riding.

I just have to try to remember to lock the key pad before I start riding.

My record is 5 SMS's, all blank, in one ride. I will have to put a dummy number as first name in the address book. Andrew is getting sick of me.

  5. I can't get the [censored] out of the backpack when the cricket goes off!

I hate the way old(er) people hang it on the young 'uns 'cause they have a bit of fun with everything (ie: cars, drugs, sex, firecrackers, brakeless fixies on the road).

As if in the '60s & '70s no one did burn outs or raced each other. It's not that I'm justifing this sort of behavour, sure it's wrong etc. But as if anyone is going to change 1000 yrs of evolution & force teenages (early 20's) to behave themselves....

Darwinian theory in action. Quick, everyone on the forum who is over 35 write down 10 things you did before the age of 25 that could have/should have killed you!

Who saw the ABC doco on how young'uns' brains are not fully developed until early 20's and that's why they indulge in risk taking behaviour?

Equally, it is a function of being an oldy to criticise the young'uns' behaviour.

This is how the world works. 😄

There is a place in Footscray (or North Melb, that area anyways) where there
is a hooker joint, and a kebab truck right out the front.. I drove past it
late one night with a mate.. a dark road with not much going on.. as we
drive by he points, "check it out, a root then a kebab - what a combo!".. a
    truly memorable moment.. arhhh geez..

Scary statistic, 70% of 000 calls are made in error, the overwhelming
majority from mobile phones. Doesn't' matter if you lock your keypad or
not because 000 can be dialed with the keypad locked, although you still
    need to press send.

Only real defence is a flip phone or carrying it in a dorky looking belt
case. Assuming you've got a belt. Or a Crumpler case for the
Crumpler. Assuming you've got a Crumpler.

You just made me giggle like a very small child. Most undignified. Bad man.

  15. I started this so I suppose I should put down 10 things:

    1. big motorcycles, 200kph, no helmet

    2. seriously large amounts of alcohol

    3. seriously large amounts of alcohol which lead to sleeping in mate's front garden in Canberra in T shirt and shorts in middle of winter

    4. getting into pen with Brahman bull and annoying it until it charges

    5. rock climbing unprotected - "no worries, it's just a boulder"

    6. avalanche at 6,000m on a snowy peak in Nepal

    7. a certain turbo charged European car, a mate and 240kmh heading west out of Brisbane (in my foolish yoof, my biggest 'booked' speed was 196kmh but that was before that sort of speed was an automatic licence looser - $110 fine if I recall)

    8. surfing through road culverts when creek was in flood - "what? snags in the pipes under the road? - never!!"

    9. lying on bottom of 10 person spa in local pool/tennis club/gym for 15 minutes breathing from the air bubble jet on the bottom so I could frighten unsuspecting girls by grabbing them by the ankle when they got in

    10. "gotta take the (sailing) boat from Mooloolaba to Brisbane. Don't worry about the cyclone warning - its too far north, it won't come down here. Faaaark, we're surfing down a 30 foot wave. Whheee. Shiiiit"

  18. BTW in Queensland at least riding while talking on a mobile will get you a ticket. Remember that whole bikes are vehicles to thing etc etc.
