Last order I received was missing one of two tires that I ordered. But
they shipped in out two-day, for me, so it's all-right.

I've had much better luck with Nashbar than with Colorado Cyclist. My
experience is that they have a better customer focus and stand behind
what they sell.

Well I have only ordered from them twice, but so far they have been
100%, I placed the order on Tuesday, picked 2nd day air and got the
order on Thursday and everything was perfect. I have ordered from
bikepartsusa and was not that happy with how long it took to ship, they
only ship on Tuesday and Friday, so if you order on Wed. you have to
wait a good long time to get your stuff.

I have ordered from Nashbar several times, and they got it right.
No problems with them at all from my perspective.

I've ordered from Nashbar once. They sent me a Saddle with a rip in it.
In their defense though they refunded the money in full, and also
refunded my return shipping charges.

I've had no problems ordering from Jensen, or Branford Bike. Mark

To me, the best mail order place is Zappos. Free shipping and fast. Last
Tuesday morning, I ordered a pair of running shoes. They arrived Wednesday
noon. Nashbar takes a week and they gouge you on the shipping. Also,
Nashbar's house brand tires and pedals haven't been good to me. Less
than 1000 miles and they fall apart.

evening (USPS) and I received it Saturday morning. The shipping was
$6.40.

When it comes to tires, pedals, and such, it pays to stick with name
brands. Speaking of tires though, I've bought several IRC Road Winners
from Nashbar for around $10 each. That's a deal that's hard to beat!

But Zappos sells fitness goods with no shipping costs. I was using them
as an example. Nashbar profits off their shipping prices.

I still buy from Nashbar, but never house brand goods.

I'm expecting my Rolls saddle today from them. Good service to me over
the past few years, along with the coupons. Nashbar'sMTB pedals are OK
for my trainer (not the cheapest, but second cheapest) -- but not of
wonderful quality.

The Performance Forte Team MTB pedals are an outstanding pedal, IMO.
When on sale they're $30. Not the same as my Frogs which I use on the
road, but I find them every bit as good as hundred dollar and up
pedals for trail riding and positive engagement and easy release. I
couldn't ask for better service from them. Remember that Shimano
pedals are like brifters, when they break, it's "tough luck, " chump.
And they're not cheap, either to replace. I haven't tried Eggbeaters
yet, but may.

Over the years, I have had good luck with both companies and no
problems with returns, even on expensive items. Of course you have to
know your prices: many of the markdowns are from *alleged* inflated
prices, or so it appears. OTOH, I am not a guy who buys jerseys for
$40 ever, but am more frugal in my selections.

Couriers who do the actual delivery charge based on weight, the first
unit of weight, is the most expensive. For example it may cost $10 for
the first 1lb, and .75 for each additional pound. So the more that the
shipper can put in the box, within weight limits, the better.

This means if you order a crank set (1lb), a chainring(1lb), a cassette
(1lb), and a chain (1lb) and all are in stock, so they ship them out the
same day (10+.75+.75+.75) shipping could end up being $12.25 from the
courier, on the other hand if you order them different days so that they
are shipped out on 4 different days, then the costs is (10+10+10+10) or
shipping costs $40.00

Now realistically, companies like Nashbar sign long term contracts, that
give them pretty good discounts from major carriers. What costs you $10
to ship might cost them $3 to ship. If course the size of the discount
is based on the amount you ship, so if your shipping 25 items a day, you
might get a 2% discount, if your shipping 250 items, you might get a 20%
discount, if your shipping 25 trailer loads a day, your going to be
paying considerably less, then joe average does for shipping that same
item.

Of course the shipper can then do creative things with shipping, for
example, free shipping, or same amount to anywhere, or different weight
limits.
