Hat's off to Lance!

Unlike last year, he didn't make his move right at the end. He took control
himself so early on the mountain ... and he spewed people out all over the
road. That was really special.

Was the win to Valverde a small gift? Seems it was. LA seemed as
though he could have beat him at the line but decided the better of
it, showing his thanks for the help in the climb and helping LA get a
little gap on Rasmussen - who I think was his real competition at the
2km mark.

OK, just got a look at LA's face in the replay right before the line -
it wasn't a gift - he was slightly cooked. ;-) (Plus, Valverde is just
faster in the sprint.)

You never know whether it was a gift from Lance or not. Really doesn't
matter. He has made it known MANY times that all he cares about is owning
the jersey on the last day so if he has to lay back a little on the legs at
the end to save them for another day he will. Lets see how all these guys do
tomorrow, including Lance, and that will tell a better story where these
guys legs are.

Keep in mind, First mtn top finish last year Lance looked cooked and
Basso took the stage. After that it was all Lance, as he got stronger,
whhen his flat-mile fatigue yielded to his climbing form.

I meant that if Armstrong was going to "gift" something, there'd have to be
some compelling reason.

Valverde's ride was perfect.

Remember, Michael Boogerd is a better sprinter than LANCE! And
Ewoud is a better sprinter than Michael Boogerd.

Valverde is quite well known as a sprinter out of a small group, certainly
he has one a lot more races than Armstrong from that kind of situation.
