  1. ........the missing crank bolt from my fixer?

Having picked the brains of the group regarding bottom bracket length,
and done some mesasuring, I ordered a 107mm UN53 from chainreaction.
Arrived, as promised the next day (today). Just got in from the
garage having fitted it (greased the threads, getting the old one out
involved swearing, long levers, Plus Gas, more swearing, effort and
knuckles), followed by the new chainset and shiny new chain. Except
I've misplaced one of the shiny new crank bolts, the sort with a
sealing wsker built in. Bugger. It's in the garage somewhere, but
    eluding me.

    Bike looks dead good though.

    It'll be under the fridge.

Try looking very very hard for something else. That way you're bound to
    find it.

Or down the back of the sofa.

Or, if it's greasy, on the most espensive thing in the vicinity that

    How's the chainline?

Did it work out OK in the end?

That does work. I have two identical boxes of screwdrivers, but one has
cross-head and one has flat. To get the box I want I reach for one,
then grab the other. Works for me :-)

Ah, good idea. Looked under son's old bike and there it was.

    Thanks for the help....

Not bad. Putting a not quite long enought straight edge on the
sprocket towards the chain ring suggests it's about 2mm out. It seems
to ride OK. I _might_ get it redished if ICBA or if it does become an
issue. I've only just got it redished to fit the old chainset, which
I then noticed was knackered, hence my reluctance.

I called the bluff of Sod's law two days ago. I intended to leave all
tools at home except for tube, pump and levers. For the sake of a 4 mile
journey I thought just puncture kit would be ok. As I pulled off the
psychlepath at Fishponds my chain came unlinked.

I thought I was buggered, but it seems that in the black hole of my bag
    was a 2nd multi-tool which I'd thought was elsewhere!

Be very wary, you are probably just being set up for a good-un in the
near future. Don't be surprised if you find yourself in the middle of
nowhere with every tool possible but your nipple key.............

I had a similar collection of odd'n'ends, spread all over the shed.
Could never remember where the bit I wanted was, could never find it,
so ended up buying a new one instead.

After a while, I realised that this was a complete waste of time and
money, so got some boxes and sorted everything out.

I now have 3 large boxes labelled "misc bike parts". Still can't find
anything, but it takes me less time to not find it, and I can give up
and move on to buying another one much more quickly.

Efficency, that's what it's all about!

A pal of ours has taken things further along this route. Her Dad, being
an Organised Type, put up shelving for numerous boxes in the back room,
with enough space for odds and sods of pretty much any sort, not just bikes.

Everything is now alphabetically filed for easy access. There's S for
    Stuff, and, errrrrr, that's it!
