Do they just let you bring your uni on the lift with you? I know during
the summer time they have hooks for bikes on the backs of the lifts, so
do you just use those? Or did you do something else to get it up there?

Yeah, what the heck, over. We were swarmed by the masses all morning, I
guess it is just part of it.
It was awesome, I so wish you all could do this type of riding one day.

Yes, I ski patrol at the Highlands, which certainly helps. This time up
was with my son, and our sides hurt from laughing so hard. The crashes
were big, but so was the terrain. Luckily it was spring slush.
It makes me feel pretty damn good, when I get respect from you guys.
This is a magical place to live, and I really do enjoy sharing the
beauty with you all.

Quit your job, get in you car, and get to COLORADO, it rocks. Plenty

Seriously, it's pretty easy to do what Mike says. His job, ski-patrol
at a world-class resort, may not be easy to get, but a ski-job is easy
to get. I know, because I did it myself in the early 1990s, but in
Utah, not Colorado.

Just get the name of some of the big ski lodges where you want to live
and call or write to them, asking for a job application. They hire
armies of workers each fall. Once you get a job offer, then ask them
for lodging info.

In most ski towns, it's easy to get a bunch of roommates and rent a
place for the season.

An even easier way to go is what I did. There are a very few lodges
and resorts that have live-in employee situations. The Alta resort in
Utah is one of them. There, if you get a job, you get 3 meals/day and
, I can't overstate this, a room RIGHT AT THE BASE OF THE MOUNTAIN.

Try www.goldminersdaughter.com, which is where I worked. There, they
even split up your work schedules to give you ski time EVERY F___ING
DAY!

I skied 150 days each winter I worked there. Roll out of bed, do the
old java-fatty-poo, and head out for first chair. It was one of the
best choices I ever made in my life.

You are really tempting me. I have friends who have done just this,
except in British Columbia. Something about an easterner going west is
attractive to me: leaving flat concrete jungle for the Rocky Mountains!

I need to think practically, though. One more year until I finish my
degree and then maybe. I really would much rather go to the American
southwest as opposed to the Canadian (american southwest is symbolic of
many vacations from my childhood to places like Death Valley and Estes
Park).

Despite this, considering the level of danger that comes with these
hobbies, it seems a tad irresponsible to move to a country that
doesn't have publicly funded healthcare!

part of your mind switches off when overwhelmed by the awesome feeling

I did a similar thing in South Lake Tahoe for the '98/99 season. I
skied Monday through Friday at Kirkwood, worked graveyard at the front
desk of a motel, and took a night EMT class (I slept mostly on
weekends). I originally was going to do this for just a year, but I
was having so much fun I was lining up a paramedic job so I could do it
pernamently.

Then I had to do something stupid and break my back, w/o any health
insurance. Virtually no skiing since :o😠
(sometimes it amazes me I was able to learn to uni [but usually just
frustrating], considering my paralysis)

Aspenmike did you get a ton of extra snow this year, like everywhere
else in the mountains. A group of us from Fort Collins are thinking of
a Mountain biking trip to Crested Butte in early July and was wondering
if you think the snow will be gone and the trails will be dry. I maybe
asking for updates as we get closer to July. Figure if it the trails
are dry in Aspen they should be aboout the same in Crested Butte. I'll
throw the uni in, but I got a ways to go before I go on a real muni
ride, thinking my first orginized ride on a uni will be the Denver Tour
De Fat. I got to start get some more miles in. You always have great
pictures, but a guess that is made easier with the views that surround
you. Are you going to do the five pass ride again this year.
