I won a bike over the winter and just put it together a few weeks ago. One thing I can't see is how to adjust the handlebar height. The handlebars had an attachment which fits around the approx. 1½" of tubing extending above the headtube, and which you tighten with 2 hex-bolts. When I remove the top cap hex-bolt and remove the cap I don't see anything that allows for an up/down adjustment. It's a Canadian Tire "SuperCycle" bike manufactured by Krane (Chinese I think). I need to raise them approx. 5 - 6 inches.
Any ideas as to what I'm missing? Do I need a riser of some kind? Any help would be appreciated . .. I can't wait to get biking again !! :-)

Sounds like the steer tube was cut down a bit severely.
You have a few choices -
1. replace stem - get more rise and/or less reach 2. replace bars - get a riser bar 3. install a steer tube extender, around US$20 or so 4. replace the fork and leave the steer tube longer
#1 and #3 are the least work.
Keep in mind that significant changes in rise/reach may necessitate replacing some or all of the cables and housing.

By the way, needing to raise the bars 5-6 inches may be telling you this bike doesn't fit.

Take it to your local bike shop and ask them to fit you to it (if possible) after putting it together.

Not adjustable. You can try flipping the stem to see if that puts it in a better position. Otherwise, you need to buy a new stem. -------------- Alex
