  1. Anyone using a Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill? I was at Target today and
saw they had them marked down from $40 to $30. Looks like a pretty good
deal, but thought I'd check here first.

I have a George Foreman grill, but an open grill would come in handy for
a lot of foods that don't work well in a GF grill, such as pretty much
anything with a bone, and veggies.

I also like the fact that this grill's plate is removable and dishwasher
    safe.

Here's the link, though it doesn't show the sale price (might be a local
    thing):

I have one and use it regularly - that price is a good deal...

Yup - I also use a George Foreman grill. The HB is really good for open meat
grilling AND veggies, etc. Also does an really nice job on things like
    salmon and/or halibut....

It's best feature, IMO. Cleanup is really easy and painless.....

    I'd say "get one".....

Thanks for the heads up! I just ordered one. The online price was $39 with
free shipping, not bad. Great reviews from satisfied users. I've been
wanting to get something exactly like this actually.

I switched from my GF grill to a Hamilton Beach grill about a year ago,
mainly because of ease of cleaning; the removable grill plates on the HB
were definitely the deciding factor. However, there are disadvantages also.
The Hamilton Beach grill does not get hot enough, and meat tends to cook
through before browning, especially with thinner cuts. This has almost the
effect of baking it in some cases rather than searing it. Also the top
plate doesn't get as hot as the bottom so I have to turn the meat, unlike on
the GF grill. I've learned to adjust the cooking times and to press down on
the lid to brown the meat I'm cooking. I've read that HB has some quality
control problems with this product, so the issue probably doesn't exist with
all of them. Even so, I still prefer the HB over the GF because of the
timer and the removable grill plates.

The HB grill I'm referencing is actually an open face grill, not the
    closed grill you're talking about.

My GF grill has a digital timer. It's so handy, I'd never get another
    one without a timer.

You know that little indestructible black box that is used on planes?
Why can't they make the whole plane out of the same substance?

I have one of those, and when its too yucky outside to grill, I use that.
The best part is the removable plates, makes cleanup so much faster. My Mom
has the GF grill, and she is jealous of the one I have as her's is a pain to
clean. Happy shopping, and get a bottle of liquid smoke too, this way 2
drops of that and you can have that "smoky" flavor without going outside.

I bought one the other day. I've only used it once so far. Cooked a
steak on it, and it took about 20 minutes to get it medium to medium-rare
(it was a pretty thick steak). Steak turned out great, very tasty.

And after it cooled down, the grill wiped completely clean with a wet
paper towel. Of course, I did spray it prior to cooking, so that helped
too. But if I cook a steak in my GF grill, it always leaves a mess, even
    if I spray it first.

Good idea. Thanks for the tip. I live in an apartment, so outside
grilling is pretty rare for me.
