Umm is a placeholder while thinking of the next words to say. Maybe Tyler didn't have much energy
left to think with after the 142km solo breakaway.

I think the guy just gets lightheader or something. I can just imagine the chatter in his head "This
is a tight turn, should I ride into that barrier?" "Ummm..."

If he's Umming all the time, like a valley girl, well that would be a problem.

Valley girls are notorious for "umms", "yeahs" and "uh-huh", as well as zero brain cells. That's

My guess is the "umms" are coming from the fact that they may have both been speaking French and are
used to using those "uumms" when searching for the right French words via their English brains and
their tired bodies. My wife is English, and speaks passable French ... she does a similar things
some times ...
