I usually overbuy too, but for the last several years there have been very few trick or treaters (dead end street). This year I decided I wasn't going to buy anything, but changed my mind on the way home from work. Went to 3 different stores looking for bargains. Bought a couple of bags of mini chocolate bars at the drug store and since it was close, fought my way to the dollar store. Yikes, lots of little ghosts and goblins at the mall. Anyway, bought 30 packaged licorice twizzlers for a dollar then headed back to Zellers where I had parked. I couldn't believe it. Zellers were selling the same twizzlers for for $4.97. Unreal!! e.

This year we added bubbles, jelly bracelets, balsa flyers, and bouncy balls to go with our candy loot. My kids are excited.

We haven't had any kids around in years, so this year we didn't bother getting anything. We have half a case of Coke, so if there is a sudden change in pattern we will just give them a can of Coke.

That's as annoying as the church vans that take kids from poor areas to nicer neighborhoods. Last year they picked our block. Luckily I saw them pull up. Not one van, but 3. LOADED!! I turned the lights off, bolted the doors, and closed the blinds. They alone would have wiped my candy supply out. I spent a couple hours cleaning the garage so the bell didn't drive me crazy.

Around here they're poor enough that they can't afford to do that. The are a I live in is very interesting. It's a mixture of upper-middle to lower-middle to downright poor.

(laugh) Yeah, it's only once a year, I get a kick out of the kid's reaction. Worth the price of admission, as they say. It wasn't all that much, really, since I had a coupon, and much of the candy is left over. I'll be eating Mars Bars till spring.

I came close to running out. I bought asst. Ferrara Pan candies. The 25 cent packs. Started out giving out three to each kid, then two then one. Then got into the little packs of Swedish Fish and the Sour Patch Kids they came with. Put several handfuls of those in the cauldron. And it's a good thing because I don't have much of anything left now and one more kid came to the door. Bought the Swedish Fish to have on hand in case I get a hypo. (I'm diabetic), but I didn't need nearly that many for myself.
I seem to be getting a lot of "kids" this year that are as tall as me or taller. They've got no bags of any kind and often no costume. They just want the candy.
I think some of them remember me from years past. This is the first year I've given out candy in some time. We normally give out toys. Stuffed animals and rubber ducks are always really popular. I think I'll go back to the toys next year. Daughter was just excited that she found a candy she wasn't allergic to so I told her we could get some.

Not that that's a bad idea but the fun is kinda/sorta worn out of the occasion.

What really struck me was parents going out with teens for Halloween. It's a different world than the one I grew up in.
Yeah. Age 11 was the last year I was allowed to go. I was 12 in the 7th grade and that was Jr. High in those days. My parents said I was too old. Now I'm getting adults coming to my door and they're the Trick or Treaters!
