  1. Hi,

I am after some advice, for the past few months as the Gym I have been beginning to shake and get
very dizzy, I have tried changing the work out, but this didn't really fix any thing... so I did
some research and have just bought an Accu-Chek Active, to test my blood sugar...

My normal reading (wh I have not done anything is 4.4, 5.9, 4.8, 4.4,
3.8, however after about 20 mins on the running machine I get a reading of 0.7…

All I want to know is, is this in a normal range?

    Any comment…

    Many thanks

    Tod

.7 is definitely not, the 3.8 can be the lower reading of normal range but still able to cause
shakiness. Take your readings to a doctor and in the meantime eat a slow acting carb with some fat
before a workout, you are not providing your body with enough glucose for the amount of exercise you
are getting. Those symptoms were the first I started to get more than 25 years ago (during heavy
exercise), as well as unusual heartbeats, total muscle weakness where I dropped to the ground etc.
That was the beginning of 22 years or reactive hypoglycemia for me. During that time I had a few run
ins with gestational (pregnancy) diabetes and got the real deal about 3 1/2 years ago. Glucose
regulatory problems are often pre cursors to type 2 diabetes but you need to see a doctor to confirm
    what you are suffering from.

It's extremely low. That's 13 in US terms. Did you repeat it in case of error? Have you been
diagnosed as a diabetic? Were those normal readings before or after meals? If they were after meals
then you probably aren't diabetic; but that very low hypoglycemic reading would be cause to check
with a doctor if it was correct.

3.8 is a wee bit low. 0.7 is certainly NOT normal! The others are normal. Don't know what to tell
    you. See your Dr.

    Nope :-)

Eat something which includes carbohydrates before, during and possibly even after exercising. And a
trip tot he doc wouldn't hurt either so he can do a few tests.

  6. He possibly had the same doctor who diagnosed me - prescribed Daonil, told me to take it after
breakfast, and did not say anything about the hypos it would cause. I found out the hard way - but I
was half expecting it. Thankfully I had already found out about hypos in this newsgroup.

Something is wrong here. If he read 0.7 how could he be conscious to take the reading? Does an
Accu-Chek Active read that low? My Ultra bottoms out at 1.1 (20 mg/dl) and gives a "LO" reading
    if its lower.

  8. All,

Thanks for the heads, up... I just wanted to check to see it was my blood sugar level before I did
    anything about it…

I have not retested as yet, (only with the test solutions provided, and I didn't really follow what
I was supposed to do). However I will do, but the thing is, when I get to that state, I feel really
bad, and usually endup having to go to bed, I fall asleep straight away… And before this, the last
thing on my mind is doing a test…

Either way I think that I will go and see my Dr.

    Thanks again

Agreed. Waiting for an answer on whether he repeated it.

  10. If your tests are seriously that low, then you need to get it checked out asap.

Do not go to bed, because that can get you into a really bad situation if you are hypoglycemic (low
    blood sugars).

What kind of meter do you use? I just ask as I have never had my meter able to go below 1.2, it
always just comes up as "LOW" on the screen. If you are ever concerned about the reading, retest &
see what it is the 2nd time. Remember to wash hands ;o) hehe Speak from experience during my "cant
    be bothered" times lol

If you feel really bad, have something fast acting like a fruit juice, normal fizzy drink (not diet
ones), or a few jelly beans or similar. Then do a test. Because you need to find out what your
    sugars are.

I guarantee you will find nearly everyone at some point who has felt like this & just cant be
bothered doing a test coz they feel like [censored]. But it really is vital.

Hope you find out the problem & a solution for this problem. Hope to hear from you soon
    with an update
