i am looking at a steel frame bike. can only spend about 15-18 hundred. have almost entirely narrowed it down between a gunnar roadie and a burley fox hollow. there is a lbs called the yellow jersey who is absolutely unbelievable and i would love to give them some of my money so i get the best fit/service. which would you buy? the burley is ultegra. and i would build up the gunnar to be veloce or centaur. thanks for any info yall.

Of the two, I'd vote for the roadie w/o knowing much about the Burley. The Burley's I've seen have been pretty decent w/r/t build and paint quality, but all the Gunnars have been absolutely beautiful. What kind of steel will you use?

I'm looking forward to a new Gunnar myself, just thought I'd post my vote of confidence for them. Absolutely beautiful bikes, and you're certainly in the right price range for a full custom job. I have no experience with Burley for comparison.

as to the steel i believe it is os2. they are nice bikes. i am just looking for a way to design it to look a little more modern. i dont want to race a schwinn paramount. nice bikes but i just dont like them for the cool factor. also anyone know where i can get an o4' i.e. before they made them compact? thanks!

Previously roadies were 853. I guess the question is what is gunnar using these days...if no options than just what? 853's getting a bit long in the tooth.

Go with the Gunnar. I am, of course, only speaking of my opinion, but Gunnar's a well respected and beautiful bike.

If you can swing a few extra $$'s i would look at the waterford r-14. it is one step up from the gunnar and you can get the custom geometry that 'might' be better for you. We looked at the gunnar last year for my wife and ended up getting the waterford w/ campy centaur and it is great! Custom frame geomety really made the difference for her. The Campy centaur is great value also, it makes me want to go campy now.
