GT Bicyles any good???

I have a GT ZR 3.0 which I bought in 2001 at and endof
season sale. I LOVE
it. I tried a few bikes (in my affordable range); a couple
of Specialized , including the Festina model, a trek, a
guru and a marinoni.And of course the GT. THe shop let
me test ride them. I didn't care for the Trek. It was
between the GT and the Marinoni. I liked how it felt,
not stiff, and I would recommend a GT for a starter. I
felt very confident with it. It's the same model that
team Lotto used to ride (Of course, with better
components), so you can take heart in the fact that
these bikes went through the forest of Arenberg. And I'm
one of the only people around here with a GT, so it
makes me sort of stand out.

I didn't know GT resumed production of road bikes. A few
years ago, they were bought by Schwinn, which was quickly
bought by Pacific (manufacturer of department store bikes).

My understanding of the result is that GT bikes are still
made to (or at least near) GT's pre-buyout specifications,
with maybe minor degradations of quality. I imagine the
price for similar a model is much better than it was pre-
buyout, and a good value.

I have an older GT mountain bike that has treated me well.

That sounds like a good idea, except it's difficult to fit a
used bike, since there's not a lot of selection for sizing.
Fit is extremely important on a road bike, IME, much more so
than a mountain bike.

Right now in my local bargain finder there are the
following bikes:

Look KG66 carbon-fibre road bike, 54cm, Ultegra-equipped,
racing rims, lots of extras, must sell, $1200 obo

Trek 2000 triathlon bike, 54cm, Aero bars & computer, never
raced, asking $1000 obo

GT 24spd road bikes, 2, 1-med (54cm), 1-small (48cm),
used 1mos, new
750.00, $500 ea.

Fiori Modena, 22"/55cm frame, chromaly double butted
construction, Shimano Exage Motion gruppo $423 obo

Touring bike, Myiata, 1000lt, $1000

Anything interesting??? Not too much detail in the

I'm not entirely familiar with all of those, but the prices
seem high, even in your monetary units.

Fit is the absolute most important part, and you'll have a
hard time fitting a used bike.

Also, even if it's fit right, I'd strongly recommend against
the triathlon bike for your first road bike; it's set up all
wrong for general road biking.

I use the GT ZR 2.0. It's the only road bike that I have
owned so don't have much to compare it to. I paid 1000. for
it used from a guy who bought it on ebay... So far it has
been holding up great.
