Grrrrrr....Train Travel

The only thing i feel sorry about mate, is for idiots like you that like to try and cram in your
bikes onto busy commuter trains making everyone crush up a bit more so you and your 2wheels take up
the whole train.

If you must ride a bike, why not ride it to work and not running the wheels all over my feet, let
alone your chain grease all over my trousers!

Why does he automatically become an idiot? He mentioned nothing about taking his bike onto a 'busy
commuter train'. 'Yesterday' was Sunday.

I think most cyclists are very responsible. Go away and take your frustrations elsewhere, troll.

I know yesterday was a sunday thats why i was at church, I am letting out my frustration on the
usual cyclist community that happends to travel to work with me on my trains and my experience of
them in general.

Most cyclists are responsible yes, to a point, have you ever tried to drive past them when they are
riding 2 by 2 side by side on the road and not letting the cars pass them, or been shoved out the
way so they get on the train?

My discussion and frustration is on topic!, i know lots of people who feel the same way.

I read somewhere recently, Cycling Plus mag maybe that Chris Juden of the CTC has finally succumbed
to getting a car because of the difficulty in using trains with bikes, esp. with family groups etc.
(given the 2 bikes limit on many trains)

I actually got this from a guard working for V*rg*n - At Nuneaton, travelling from Milton Keynes to
Leicester.

First the git wanted to tell me that I needed a reservation.. depite my having paid extra to obtain
th one that I tried to show him, followed by 'We dont need your sort any more' The only provocation
was my taking a bike off his train.

Funnily enough I rarely go on red trains now.

I have had some very pleasant service from Midland Mainline and GNER though.

Congratulations on the fantasy post of the week - your diatribe bears no relation to the commuter
cyclists I meet (most of whom are not in any case allowed to take their bikes on the trains during
peak hours, so keep one bike at the home end and one in London).

Yesterday there was a signal failure at Baker Street which caused major tube delays. I wish I had
taken my bike into town, I could have got back to Paddington much quicker. I envied the Bromptoneers
who hopped on their trusty folding steeds and pedalled off into the sunset rather than wait for the
uncertain arrival of the tube.

Of course FGW still have guards' vans, which makes bike transport a breeze.

Not all trains are commuter trains.. We are usually not allowed to take bikes on trains at rush
hours either.

Why dont you take your bile along to the monkeys that run our railways, and who think its smart to
cram hundreds of folk into 2 or three carriages with no legroom and cancel the preceding train.

Perhaps when they make room for passengers then they can attack the luggage problem.

Mind I have yet to have any hassle from a passenger... but I am careful with my timing.

Those trains have nice big vans and taking a bike on one should be no problem.

Given Virgin's earlier new trains I would not be too optimistic about the replacements.

To be honest there seems to be gits and good guys on all services. I've had very helpful guards on
Virgin and the occassional git. It helps with the gits to have a mobile phone and the customer
relations phone number. Its surprising how helpful they can become if you offer to phone up customer
relations with them there and then to sort it out.

Ignoring the bike carrying capacity of the new Virgin Voyager trains I have found the leg room okay
(6'2"😉 but there is a trick. Not all the seats are spaced the same, there are a couple near each end
of each carriage with more leg room than normal. I discovered this by chance but I did wonder if it
was possible to book these seats specifically as one can book particular seats on an airline if you
need more leg room.

WRT bikes I haven't had any problems using the Voyagers but then I have been using a standard bike,
booked in advance and on not too busy services.
