Went for an early morning ride up to Merthyr. Got as far as Abercynon, stopped to find out why the rear brake was so squishy, and found out that the bloody back wheel is bloody wobbling abloodygain. Turned back for home. Time to dig out the cone spanner.
If the axle is bent again, then I think I'm going to give up cycling until I lose a stone or four.

The old non-QR type axles are a lot stronger; you might consider that as a solution.

Naah. I've bent many solid spindles and broken a few in my time, and I'm a skinny bugger. QR ones have the advantage that when you snap them, the skewer holds the bits together for a while, as well.
Is it a screw-on freewheel? I find cassette-type hubs are much less susceptible to bent axles.
You probably know this already, but I believe that's because the bearings are located much closer to the end of the axle - and in some cases there is also an extra set of bearings.

Indeed I do know this. And my wife's bike was upgraded to cassette hubs because the weight of the trailer bike kept bending axles :-)

Interesting, ta. Might be worth investing in a new rear wheel. (I doubt very much that it's worth putting the old rim on a new hub/spokes)
