The profit motive is useful not good. And Greed is the
profit motive run amok. There is such thing as a fair
profit as there is such a thing as price gouging. Part
of the failing of the current system is that it over-
looks simpler and safer medical useful substances in
favor of patentable substances.
Quoted message said:That is true of the current system that one is not obliged
to be a part
of.
Quoted message said:You can refuse any medication you want to.
I am not talking about refusing meds? Anyway, the drug
companies have been withholding research results that don't
favor their drugs. See recent article about proposed reforms
in publishing research results by the AMA. The Docs want to
see the null and negative results for research that the drug
companies have deep sixed.
Quoted message said:You can go to anybody you please. I really don't
understand the logic of going into a Italian restaurant
and demanding French food and then telling the manager
that he should change his menu.
Well, I'd like a self serve salad bar for many non-addictive
meds. So you admit the current system can't provide good
service so don't ask for it?
Quoted message said:If you are sick you need strong medications.
Who says I've anything against strong meds? I'd just like a
greater portion of generic and off-patent meds.
I was referring to implementing the use inositol versus
SSRI meds, CoQ-10 and carnitine in heart conditions,
arginine and carnitine for reduced male potency, vitamin D
at high levels to help prevent the following: type-1
diabetes, prostate cancer, breast cancer, autoimmune
disorders, use of tetracycline-like meds to reduce
inflammation, estriol versus just estrone and E2,
testosterone gel versus testosterone patches etc.
Quoted message said:If you want to prevent disease you can go holistic all the
way but as soon as you get sick then the ball game is
over. You are admitting defeat by going into the doctor.
If you have an infection he will give you an antibiotic
and not ask you to eat a moldy bread with penicillium.
Don't paint me as a Luddite. I am for antibiotics when
needed.
Quoted message said:Third world countries have always used simpler meds and
herbs but you are talking apples and oranges.
I wasn't talking about the third world. Why are you?
Worried about their generic industry cutting into your
employer's profits?
Quoted message said:It is the price gouging that pays for the research to find
patentable substances.
Naw. It pays for the drug corporation CEO multi-million drug
pay packages plus Jiggles his very personal assistent. I say
cut the over head, keep the scientists.
Quoted message said:Who has the money to fund research involving non-patentabe
substances? Nobody, so in effect you want research halted.
Castrate the political power of the big drug corporations,
then replace them with an admixture of public funded
research organizations with publicly supported manufacturing
and have parallel track of limited size corporations that
research drugs in which the reward go in large measure to
the scientists. It is about a balancing act in the private
sector were there needs to be enough profits to pay off the
research, cover risk, have long enough of a patent to get a
good profit and enough reward that a good team will seek
another bit of the apple. Without seeing all costs involved
generating a new drug with the associated manufacturing
facilities, we can only argue.
Quoted message said:Without greed all research will be halted.
Nonsense. One just needs a different social construct in
the form of a mechanism to generate research, production,
and rewards..
Quoted message said:
The drug companies often spend their
Quoted message said:resources making copy cat drugs of little or no merit;
rather, than truly innovating. Perhaps the
pharmaceutical industry corporations need to be broken
up like Bell telephone was. There need to be price
controls and can the pay structures within the resulting
corporation
Right after they start gas price control and electricity
and food price control.
Price controls don't have to be on the moron level of
dicated finished goods prices; rather, there somewhat more
subtle methods used for the control of prices as implemented
in the U.S.A.
Public power is great and quite superior to private
electricial power companies. I use public power and I've met
the board members, men giving back to the community.
Look what happened in Calfornia and Oregon with private
electrical power.... what a disaster, a secret power cartel
of sorts........greed in action to no good purpose. Can you
say Enron.
And food price controls, well, the USA has those if you've
haven't noticed. Why do you think the milk prices just went
up a little? Why do you think the commodiities such milk,
peanuts, soy, corn, and wheat are cheap? It is because
commodity price supports even out the gyrations of the
market driven distribution system that is impelled by
forces of fear, greed, supply, and demand. Price supports
are a very clever mechanism that controls prices and
provide ample supply.
And the current war is about oil in part and is an indirect
subsidy of the oil commodity. Thus as such is an oil price
"control", it surely controls oil prices in the longer term
by the mechanism of fear. Not always direct fear rather more
often indirect fear......it is really rather brillant if
somewhat risky.
Anyway, I said that what is needed; I didn't say it was
about to happen.
It is a Dark Water world................
