John Carol Leisure Centre, Nottingham: my local pool for the past eighteen years, which I visit 5
evenings per week on average.

Why? Because it is clean; level deck design, well-illuminated and well-ventilated; it has a good
schedule that suites serious patrons; always has two lanes allocated to fast swimmers - including
during public sessions; visited mostly by adult well-behaved users (it's near two Nottingham
Universities); great regulars, some, excellent swimmers; friendly staff who make you welcome;
responsive to customer feed-back. A "great swimming pool" 🙂

mmm, the Commonwealth Games pool in Victoria is nice, as is the PanAm pool in winnipeg. While not a

I Like the pool in Horgen (Switzerland) it's a concrete 50m pool built into the lake of Zürich.

There are actually dozens of similar bubble era swimming centers around here. Only a few stations
away from Tatsumi is the Chiba International General Swimming Center, which is almost as nice:

The Pan Pacs last year were held at a similar swimming center in Kanagawa that neither I nor any
swimmer I knew had ever heard of. When the banks and postal savings system all fail and the
pension system goes belly up, we'll at least have nice pools built with all the imprudently
sqandered money..

Well, this is a little offbeat, but I can remember 3 memorable ones:

1) The oceanside pool at the south side of Bondi beach in Sydney, Australia. Incredible ambience.

2) The water palace pool in Tirtagangga, Bali.

3) The pool at the former royal retreat outside Jogjakarta, Java.

Oh, yes, Princeton, NJ has a very nice 50m pool at the town's aquatic center.

I had a great swim in the Cook & Philip Park pool in Sydney on a visit there a few months ago. It is
right next to the CBD and sort of semi-underground, 50m and not very busy at all when we were there.
As the Swimmers Guide website says: "Located across from St. Mary's Cathedral, an appropriate
setting for a pool in a country that worships swimming."

The Sydney International Aquatic Centre was also awesome, unfortunately when I went there the
competition pool was closed and only 1 lane for swimming was available in the training pool - a fact
I would have known had I checked the lane availability on their excellent website. However it
transpired that the reason the main pool was closed was because they were filming something - Ian
Thorpe. So I sat in the stands and watched him cruise up and down a few laps. It was worth having
only 1 lane to swim in to see that.
