I have always used grease on the threads when installing bottom
brackets. I was perusing the Branford Bike site last week and they
say that for some Campy BB's, e.g., the Centaur, that you should not
use grease, that the thread lock on part of the threaded surface was
all that was needed. Is that good advice?

What harm can grease do? Those three theads that are threadlocked always
make me laugh. I use lots of grease and torque it to spec. Never had any
problems with Campy BB.

grease prevents corrosion. it also helps mitigate cold welding if you
have an alloy cup and alloy frame. if you're worried, screw in until
the thread lock is submerged, then grease and tighten to spec.

Pisspoor advice and no surprise..grease the threads and tap the cups
off the BB and grease inside there as well.
Remember grease not only keeps things tight but also prevents
corrosion and a BB bonded permanently to the BB shell.
threadlock is locktite? what is more effective than blue oem or red
locktite if there's no seals to burn off when torching to loosen?

I dip my BB's in the tube of grease. Maybe thats why I get them to
last way longer then stock. And I've done my share of BB's in the last
10 years.
