Before today and thanks to BBC 5Live, I had no idea who Graham Obree was. Not taking any interest whatsoever in the 'racing' side of cycling, I'm was never likely to either. But I did find his interview on 5live this morning, coinciding with the publication of his new book, really interesting, probably more from the human angle, everything he was struggling against, than the technicalites of his track records. I've been doing a bit of searching around to see if I can find any more information on him, but not that much so far. I'd be interested to read his book. Gotta love a maverick sometimes. Hope he recovers fully though.

Yes, it's a shame his achievements aren't more widely recognised. I hope he's recovering well and wish him & his family all the best.

I was fortunate enough to meet him when he rode a local ''25'' on his unique superman bike, he was extremely friendly, had time for everyone and in no way had '' fastman attitude'' it was a windy day and I rode a '57' came 4th in the event and there was only 30 seconds between 2nd, 3rd and 4th position....... this shows the pure strength of Obree he rode fixed wheel into the wind like a hot knife into butter....... he won the event with a brilliant '51' He was a everyday day guy struggling along in life..

Coincidentally, I've just finished reading that. Went along to a local CTC meeting yesterday for the fisrt time and one of the guys game me that very copy of Cycling Weekly. Something very engaging about his story.
Just finished reading the book (£10.74 including postage from amazon) Excellent. The guy's a hero, of that there's no doubt. Heartbreaking in places. What a talent. I hope he manages to overcome his illness and finds some of the happiness he deserves.
How anyone can just fail taking the hour record 1 day and then break it the next. Bloody awesome.
Interesting to see how much he loved touring too.
Now if I could only tour that fast ...

I met him while he was riding or racing a penny farthing at Market Harborough one summer many years ago. Lovely guy, very friendly, deserved far better treatment than he got from ThoseInChargeOfTheSport.

It is unavailable, to the best of my searchings, in California, US, or at=20 least, in the People's Republic of Davis/Sacramento and (US) Amazon. I am all the poorer for that, I suspect; it sounds like an interesting read, and he sounds a fine man.
