GPS Mounts for Bikes

I use a Garmin Legend. They have a nifty mounting device. Works on both my Tour Easy and my car. It
slips in with a nice resounding "click" and requires depression of a small lever to remove. I have
it mounted behind the fairing on the lowest part of the handle bars so that it has relatively good
protection from 3 sides. I have also a device for it that clips on my belt which would allow me to
clip in the back of my seat...or my cargo pack which also hangs on the back of my seat. The Legend
it the approximate size of a cellular phone. Not sure this information is of much help. But here it
is anyway. Good luck. As for a GPS in general, it's great to be able to see your speed, direction,
and altitude, have a route map you can transfer to your pc, and a lot of good statistics about the
ride for an anal retentive record keepr like me.

Some one on this NG recommended the RAM Mount. A Ball and socket design with lots of mounting
options and cradles to fit most GPS and (in your case ) PDAs. rammount.comrammount.comOpen ↗

This is what I got and it sure beats the H/B only (in your face) mount that came with my Magellan.

It is not the mount that is huge, it is the form factor for the GPS. Magellan has a form factor
that is perpendicular to the H/B while Garmin is parallel to the H/B. With the Magellan, you do not
sacrafice H/B real estate like you must with the Garmin. On a D/F this is not much of an issue
since you look down to see the GPS. On a bent, the Vertical orientation of the magellan places the
GPS in the line of sight. With the RAM Mount, you can mount any GPS on the H/B riser, top tube or
anywhere convienient to the user. I put mine on the top tube between my legs where it is easy to
see and follow the map. I have room on my H/B for a camera mount (Also a RAM Mount), computer, HRM,
light and bell.

Hey, Sometimes I use my Garmin GPS III plus. Garmin makes a bike mount that fits on the handle bars.

You're probably thinking about the Garmin V and its predecessors. The Garmin eTrex series has a
vertical form factor. It's also smaller than the Magellan Meridian. (Probably comparable to the
Magellan SporTrak but I've only seen that in photos.)

I'm currently using a Magellan Meridian with the standard Magellan handlebar mount, but it's a very
basic mount and not very adjustable. Before that I used a RAM mount with my previous GPS receiver
(Garmin GPS-12) and that was much better - huge amount of adjustment, and very rugged. It IS a large
mount, but I find the extra flexibility (adjustability) to be worth the weight and size.

I had a Garmin III+ which used the same shape and used the same mount as the V and it could be
mounted vertical.
