GPS in Nepal

Not immediately offhand. You could ask the publishers. The datum may be the
"IND-I" datum mentioned on
http://earth-info.nga.mil/GandG/datums/dtp/CountryAsiaTable.html , but the
projection is anybody's guess.

You could ask the Nepal survey department at http://www.dos.gov.np/ what the
normal datum and projection is,and see if the info they give fits this
map...or maybe they'll be able to tell you directly, as they probably
cross-reference maps of Nepal produced by other bodies, which will have had
to get their original information from somewhere.

Alternatively, get one a new Nepalese map locally, sample shown at:
http://www.dos.gov.np/topography/topography/avail.html seems to have both
geographical and grid coordinates on it, and I'd be very surprised if it
didn't include datum and projection information. They don't seem expensive.

Thanks to everyone who replied to this.

By a process of trial and (mostly) error I worked out that it is a standard
UTM grid, but the map fooled me by not printing some of the lead grid
reference numbers. Once I had established the general area I was in (by
taking a lat/long ref for one of the peaks on the map and converting it) all
became clear.
