Had to wait in an office today and their waiting room magazines included the March 2006 issue of Gourmet. I haven't looked at it for ten years or so and it sure has changed. It's now a glossy "life style" and travel mag as much as it is about food and cooking. There were some recipes that looked good, but not many considering the mag was 150+ pages. This issue featured Montreal, its attractions, restaurants and food. Don't know if our Canadians would find the magazine's recipes featuring bacon and maple syrup typical, or good....
At any rate, I don't expect to buy the magazine in the near future, but I might look at it if it's in our library. -aem

I'm what they euphemistically call "living simply" meaning POOR. I do, however, indulge myself with subscriptions to BOTH Gourmet and Bon Appetit. I rarely cook from the recipes but I love learning about all that food and it's MUCH cheaper than travel ;-)
My favorite thing in Gourmet is the Roadfood column by Jane & Michael Stern (BIG FAN!)
I just got the April issue of Bon Appetit and it has a WAD of lemon desserts and a gorgeous Passover menu.

I stopped subscribing to it long ago. At one time the magazine had more advertisements than articles. I stopped subscribing to several magazines for the same reason. Besides, one can find just about anything online these days.

Another magazine that has gone in the "lifestyle" direction is Cooking LIght. The last time I bought it I had to really search for the recipes and food articles among the bloat. I'd rather they just shrunk it and get back to the topic of its title.

OH, I'm soooo sorry to hear that. It was the magazine I subscribed to after Gourmet and Bon Appetit were not of much interest anymore. I just don't have the time to read cooking magazines and rfc, so I'm here... but I was dreaming of the day when I'd resubscribe.

Oh yes, Curly Sue has it exactly. We got a subscription to "Cooking Light" from our grandson's fundraising efforts at school. Boy were we disappointed. Not only were the recipes difficult to find, the ones we did find were hardly "light."
Many of the "Sunset" family of magazines (the living styles of the Southwest- or Northwest, or East, or where ever) have become vehicles for advertisements sprinkled with just enough content to please some people for awhile.
We can't wait to have the subscription run out. In the meantime, it's off to the library with every new issue.

IMO there is no need anymore for cooking magazines, most everything is available on the web. In fact the only magazines I've bought lately are the March issues of _Vanity Fair_ and _Architectural Digest_ (both are the "Hollywood" issues) and I'll also pick up a copy of _Collectible Automobile_ from time to time...
And magazines cost a LOT of money these days, sheesh!

I sort of agree, but I'd point out that it's a lot easier to take a magazine into the bathroom than a computer (and most bathrooms don't have internet hook-ups).

My bathroom doesn't even have a rangetop...let alone an oven.
....but that is something to think about in the future.
