  1. I just got an email with the coolest attachment.

The story is that some guy working on the latest Jamie
Oliver cookbook sent a Word file with the contents book to a
friend who in turn started sending it all over the place. I
had a look at it and it looks like the real McCoy with real
Jamie Oliver cook book, 124 pages of it, complete with
    pictures.

Interesting link. If I may quote from the snopes link:

Fans of Jamie Oliver's might be a little puzzled why the kitchen
    wizard, who has
already published books entitled The Naked Chef and The Return of
    the Naked Chef,
would come out with a third work under the retro title Naked Chef
    2. That
puzzlement would be well-founded: according to Oliver's UK
publisher, Penguin Books, they have no Naked Chef 2 title in the
works; the faux volume circulating in Microsoft Word is a pirated
document which was assembled from Oliver's previous works and
    contains no new material:

This is a curious comment because I Googled Jamie Oliver Naked
Chef 2, which they claim to be a "faux volume" and got this one:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005NB0G/026-7924289-7490854

which is an amazon.com site listing Jamie Oliver Naked Chef 2,
the very title that the snopes article claims is a "faux volume"
and they aren't worried about it impacting sales of their newest
    book.

The next non amazon hit was an article about how Penguin is
trying to figure out how 100 Oliver recipes were compiled into a
fake book and emailed all over the place.

I guess the best thing to do is to go into a book store and have a
look at the real one, which the publisher says doesn't exist.

    That's a DVD.

The "Naked Chef 2" book that was circulated by email was indeed a fake,
consisting of recipes from "The Naked Chef" and "Return of the Naked Chef".

So I still get a collection of Oliver's recipes without having to fork out a
lot of money for the whole book?

Thank goodness of Better Homes and Gardens and Joy of Cooking. Every other
cookbook we have has only a few recipes that are worth trying.

    Yep.

I've got some cookbooks like that, and some that are full of great recipes
and inspirations. I've also found that recipes are deceptive - we've used
some that sounded great and tasted awful, and on the other hand my partner
has used recipes I wouldn't have bothered with and they were fabulous. One
day when I retire rich and idle (or in my dreams) I shall take the time to
make every dish in every book I own.
