The mtbr reviews on this trail are hilarious, some suggesting that you
"need" body armor to ride it. It's nothing a singlespeeder with a
rigid fork can't handle riding down if they know what they are doing.

Nah, not the SJT. It's much steeper, though many in the mtbr bunch
probably think that body armor is required for the SJT. The switcbacks
on this trail are tighter, steeper and narrower than the SJT. It's in
the San Gabriels and just about anything up there is good. I'm not
sure about the Elsinore area, other than it's close to the
SJT/ViejoTie/Chiquita and others off of the SA Divide.

Nice, the San Gabriel's are my local favorite.
It is a short ride but Mt. Waterman is beautiful; big trees, big views, go
before it is snowed in for the winter, summit is over 8,000. You can do a
loop through the ski resort, but I like to ride the singletrack to the
summit and back. To bad it is next to the wilderness area it limits access
to other trails in the area.
It is sort of close to Chilao for some more fun.
