  1. Okay, I'm fibbing, I just bought one. Went to Williams-Sonoma.
They used to have a small store near me, but couldn't really carry
much. Now they have maybe tripled their space and carry more
    items.

The spoon is just as pretty and smooth as the ones I had before.
I'm very happy with it. Also bought some dish towels and a
couple of ramekins to replace my mysteriously disappearing
ones. Funny, the Le Crueset display had tiny dutch ovens
that were, oddly, Velroed down. Turns out they were not for
sale, but just to illustrate the different colors you could get
    the pots. Darn.

Anyway, looked at a couple of Kitchen Aide (sp) stand
mixers, not only were the colors ... odd ... but the finish was
matte. Yuck. Not that I was in danger of buying one.

Did more shopping at this nice fancy outdoor (man, it's
friggin hot) mall and went to lunch, where I ate far too much.
I'm still in some pain, trying to sit it off. Even polished off
lunch with a nice big piece of carrot cake. Expect a
recipe request to follow. Making it will follow when I
finally decide what to do about the oven. Sigh.

Were you able to buy just the spoon... on line it appears you need to
buy a set; spoon, fork, spatula/$24.

Isn't that funny, I didn't even see those other things. Just different size
spoons. I won't lie, that one spoon was $16, and I'm going to get
another one. I wouldn't buy a wooden fork, I don't know how people
clean those things in between the tines.

Yes, the spoon does look like what I bought.

You betcha! I hope you'll enjoy it. We were going to make one for my
birthday, but were just too tired. So now the plan is to make one for
    Crash's birthday.

Carol, that looks wonderful, just the combination I would like. Two
questions, though. How finely are the carrots shredded, and do you drain
    the crushed pineapple?

    Thanks!

    Here's one that I like:

    Carrot Cake
    <original recipe>

    2 C flour
    2 C sugar
    3 eggs
    1 C oil
1 sm. can crushed pineapple (undrained)
    2 C shredded carrot
    2 C chopped walnuts
    1 C shredded coconut
    2 t baking soda
    2 t cinnamon
    1 t salt
    2 t vanilla

In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together. Pour the mixture into
a greased and floured rectangular (9 x 13 inch) pan.
Bake at 350º for 55 minutes.

*Or use three 8-inch round pans and bake 350º for 30 minutes.

    Cream Cheese Frosting

In a small bowl, blend 4-T soft butter and one 8-oz. package of
softened cream cheese. Gradually add 3 C sifted powdered sugar,
beating until smooth and creamy. Stir in 1-t vanilla.

Medium to fine. Just dump the whole contents of the can in. You will LOVE
    this!

Hmm, for $8 more you could have had all three.

Seems to me the fork and spatula would be fine for tossed salads. Only
I don't much like wood for salads, wooden bowls always stink... they
can be scrupuously clean but they always stink. I like the W-S
stainless steel mixing bowls for salads. I have some nice glass bowls
too. I detest wooden bowls for anything wet, I especially don't like
to eat salad from a wooden bowl.

We just got our first WS store locally...I was in there with my 4 year
old the other day. We bought a wooden lemon reamer and a couple of
spoons, but I'm not sure if they're olivewood or not, honestly...

We were looking at the pots and pans, and Sarah tried to pick the lid
up on the bright green OHMYGODITSBIG Le Creuset dutch oven to see the
inside. One handed. Then 2 handed. She's a big 4-year old, but
still...she was shocked at the weight ...the lid never moved. The
expression on her face was priceless.

Oh, and for her special "treat" for being good, she chose a jar of
olive tapenade, correctly identifying it and asking for it
specifically. I'm glad SHE likes olives....I certainly don 't. But
she and her brother think it's fantastic on pita. Freaked the
    employee there out.

Now you tell me! (j/k) When my brother was getting married and moving out
of the house we shared, my future sister-in-law was helping pack up his
stuff. She kept taking my teak salad bowl set out of the cabinet. I kept
putting it back. This went on for a while (kind of like an Abbott &
Costello routine). Finally she said to me, "Is this your salad bowl set?"
"It's not walking itself back into the cabinet, what do you think?" LOL I
should have just let her take it but there was a principle involved.
