Quoted message said:I drooled over British motorcycles - Triumph, BSA, Matchless, Vellocette,
Norton, and the like. I considered the Isle of Man a holy place worthy of
a pilgrimage because of the motorcycle races there.
I kind of remember in the mid sixties the IoM being won a few times by a
British rider...Mike Halewood (sp?), even if he rode something Italian like
MV Augusta.
My first 'real' bike was a Raliegh 3 speed. And ya know what? Strumey Archer
3 speed hubs were [censored], oh excuse me, I guess it would be [censored]. I also had
a Raleigh Super Tour made from Reynolds 531, but the assembly must have been
done by apprentices. But to me it was 531 and the price was right and I
could overlook the less than beautiful brazing and file. It was kind of hard
to ignore the the huge shimmy at 30 mph though.
fwiw I went to college with a guy who had a Vincent. Compared to the Honda
Triumph knock-offs that was a kick ass moto.
