did they say what type of cancer Tugboat was diagnosed with?
Tyler seems to have the worst of luck with the tour, hope he can use this as
a positive.

it's the same from the reports) affliction, and she was only three.

9 years old seems kind of young to get cancer for a dog. I'm guessing
Tugboat somehow found where Tyler was stashing his performance enhancing
drugs. I'm sure Tyler will get a new Tugboat Jr, but I hope he also invests
in some childproof containers for those toxic substances.

I think the article I read said he was 9. Cancer's not age specific,
as you know.

I lost a 7 yr old lab, that I'd raised from a pup, to cancer once. I
was devastated. As tough as Tyler has proven to be, continuing after
this is probably harder than racing with a broken collarbone.

Not in Goldens which, IIRC, is what Tugboat is/was. Cancer is one of the
leading killers of this breed. As a breed they have a life expectency, on
average, of 10 years. That would be higher if the Cancer rate came down.

From what I've read it wasn't specific, but Tugboat has been ill for
weeks and apparently it's spread pretty far.

I come from a family which has had a lot of cats and seen many of them
go to feline leukemia. It's always sad to put a pet down, even one as
ornery and independent minded as a cat. My late cat Bill (named for
Bill & Ted, as his brother's name is Ted) was put to sleep after
surviving one year with feline diabetes. Bill started going downhill
so rather than see him in pain it seemed the humane thing to do.

I wonder, if Tyler wins a stage, will he dedicate it to the memory of
Tugboat? That would certainly touch a lot of hearts.

Anyway, "think global, act local". People tend to care more about what they
know, and those who are important to those they know. This generally works
fairly well. We don't grieve for the millions of animals who die in the
shelters, slaughter houses, and industrial and academic labs. We don't
know them. With humans, those we know, or with whom we identify, are
more important than nameless, faceless statistics.

It's just the way it is. Without this defense, nobody could cope.
