  1. I'm needing to rebuild a couple of Mavic Open Pro wheels, and I'm
considering DT-Swiss Revolution (black). Does anyone have a good source for
buying them? I live in a small town without a LBS nearby, so
mail-order/internet is my usual method of shopping.

The wheels are 28-spokes (14 per side), so getting them in 18-count packages
would be my best option, I suppose.

I don't see them on Performance or Nashbar.

    Thanks!

  2. Yes, I see them on Performance, but not in black. Plus, being a frugal sort
of chap (can you say "cheap"?), I'm looking for somewhat less than $25 per
    set of 18.

  3. Open Internet Explorer and then Google. Search for dt spokes.

Hope your are a light one, with 28 Revs in the rear...I can get you
Revs in black, $1 per spoke, +$5 shipping.

  6. Hi, Peter!

What would you recommend? These are Mavic Open Pro rims, came from a
Cannondale R1000 circa 2002. The front is straight laced. The rear is
straight on the left and 3x on the drive side. These are the cool looking
orange annodized rims, with the black bladed spokes, and they look great on
    my bike ;>😉

    I weigh 165 lb.

I have a set of Velocity AeroHead wheels (32-spoke) on the bike on my
trainer that are still in very good shape. I rebuilt those wheels a couple
of years ago with 14-15-14 spokes, as I recall. Would I be better off with
those on my road bike, and put the Mavics on the trainer?

Recommendations are appreciated, and my wife has given me the go-ahead to
buy the spokes. She'd rather not have to come pick me up on the side of the
    road somewhere!

I'm not Peter, but perhaps I can chime in.

I weigh just about what you do, maybe 4 pounds less. I purchased a Habanero
from Mark Hickey several years ago, and built up wheels using Velocity
non-aero rims, 32 hole x3 with the Revolutions on Campy (10 speed).

I consider myself a pretty fair wheelbuilder, with hundreds under my belt. I
could not keep the rear in true despite my best heroic efforts. I really
don't see how those ultra-light spokes can handle the modern dishing
    requirements.

I got so discouraged that I replaced the rear with a slightly heavier rim
(Colnago / Ambrosio) and built the wheel with 15/16 DTs on the nondriven side
and 14/15 DTs on the driven side. Hated to add the weight, but even a zealot
    has to admit defeat sometimes.

I continue to use the Revolution wheel on the front without incident.

Just one rider's personal experience with those guys.

First gotta ask why you need to change the spokes. Wheel problems, if
you have any, are mostly rim problems not spoke problems BUT
Revolutions on the front 14/15 in the rear, laced the way they are now
to prevent one of the flanges from exploding.

I don't have to replace the spokes. One broke last year, and the bike
mechanic supporting the ride had a normal black spoke of close to the
correct length (instead of the bladed kind). It's not really noticeable, so
I guess it's just more aesthetics. The wheel has actually done fine since
    the spoke replacement.
