  1. Good luck to all the runners in the Big Apple.
    Donovan, Brian, Lance Andrew.

Looks like a high quality elite race also.

Will Paula come back? I'm hoping that the Aussie Benita Johnson will
put up a strong effort following her disappointing olympics.

Lots of American interest also. Deena Kastor on the womens' side, and
Meb, Abdi and Bob Kennedy on the mens'.

    Anthony.

I hope so, but I doubt it.

    Is this Johnson's first marathon?

Indeed. Now how do I find coverage?

I'll be there too, bib 4101, look for the bright yellow Team Utopia singlet
(www.teamutopia-usa.com ), guess I'm the only one from the team this
year. No, that's not me on the home page it's my hero who ran 2:45 at the
local marathon on October 10th. My short term goal is to run his Marathon
pace (in a 5k). No great aspirations for me with it being my 2nd in 3 weeks,
but I'm taking the next three days off and if I feel good, who knows?
Good luck to all those with time goals.

  4. thanks!. should be fun as i believe there might be 7-8 (men & women) or
more regulars on this ng in this race. you guys know what donovan looks like?
when i met him in '03...he was a pale skinny guy. well he's still pale...but
look at his legs.....not to mention time.....

i'm trying to get these 41 yr. old big legs and sprinters body of mine to clock
    a 3:12 (10 min. under my BQ time). i'm 5'9", 175 .lbs & my daily carbo intake
normally should be about 560g or carbo, 105g of protein. Thr/Fri/Sat each day
i am going to consume 1300g of carbs & 210g of protein daily, predominately via
nutrition drinks, not actual food. at the starting bridge.... i've got a blue
start but i may try to weasel down to the green start where i did last year.
why? it's a less hectic/nutty/insane start, and it's flat and then slopes
down....as opposed to the top which is where all the 'fanfare" is....and
    slopes/arches up a good ways....

Speaking of the starts -- you know, if you were in a running club, your recent
half marathon time would be good enough to get you a team start.

Thanks! This should be fun. I'm glad I took today off work so I can
    pack without going nuts!

    I'm bib #3059.

So will the RR folks have a meetup anywhere before or after?

My only regret is that I won't be able to see the elites -- too far
back in the crowd. I'll have someone local tape it for me.

    See you all there!

Same from here. Good luck to you all. I will be wishing good things
for you as you get to miles 18-20, as, in my experience, that is
always the rough patch. We will expect to hear all about it soon
    afterward.

I'd like to see Paula back at her best and a spectacular marathon
debut for Benita. Benita should have another Aussie for company in
the lead pack. Kerryn McCann may be back near her best after giving
    birth a year ago.

Hopefully it will be a good day for both PRs'. I prefer it cool also, the
weather looks better than last year but I prefer when the high doesn't hit
    50. Look like we could get snow by Monday in upstate NY.

My only race day advice which very few will follow - find a pace that's
feels good and then run slower - especially those WAVA spectacled myopic

Thanks Doug, I'll have to check out the Falling leaves next year.
A group of locals is going to be there, people from the Albany Running
Exchange. They are a Suny Albany based club www.albanyrunningexchange.org .
I think at least one TU person may there also.
I just found out there is another TU person going to NYC also.
I'm planning on taking it easy and treating it as a big tour/party of NY.
But who knows I ran a PR at Vermont City a couple of years ago when I
started at the very back having very low expectations and ran 9:30 for the
    1st mile.

not racing, she developed an IT band problem after Hartford.

  17. I read somewhere, that 40% of jogger injuries in the NYC Marathon are
from participants tripping over the homeless.

My plan, (or rather, Bob's plan which I've adopted) is to go out at 6:40 pace
which will feel painfully slow in a race setting, and stay on that pace for the
first half. If it still feels slow at the halfway point, I'll pick it up.
