  1. I'm looking for references to good exercise physiology texts. I see McArdle's "Exercise Physiology" is due for a 6th Ed in Mar06, but was wondering if anyone recommends any other good reads.

    Thanks

I got this one several years ago. I think it's good. I recently saw a copy of it in my coach's office.

I agree with Warren. Textbooks are a matter of personal taste, but this one is easy to read in my view, and has more cycling related issues than McArdle. Have a copy of it myself.

  4. Try Textbook of Work Physiology, by Astrand and Rodahl. It's a great text. Also Perspectives in Exercise Science and Sports Medicince. Plus, all the primary literature.

  5. The ones I tend to refer to the most are -

Physiological Bases of Sports Performance, hargreaves and hawley eds.

Overtraining in Sport, Kreider, Fry, O'Toole eds.

The first because it's one of the shortest that does a good job covering the subject matter, the second because I tend to do it frequently.🙁

  6. My personal favourite is:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0072985402/sr=1-1/qid=1138869118/ref=sr_1_1/102-0409347-5436145?%5Fencoding=UTF8

It is an awesome resource on most aspects of 'pure' exercise physiology, although the biochemistry is way more advanced than in most standard texts.

    AND...it's a sensible size!
