Gang, I just discovered an incredible deal on the Active Dry socks--the ones that run for about $8 a pair in stores. Check it out at www.feetpeople.com. I bought some myself last week and they're the real deal. Just wanted to pass this along in case you're interested.
For those of you who do not know what is so special about these socks, well, if your feet sweats, then you'll know why... 🙂

Not worth it. I tried them once and they were this really harsh weave, like burlap. Ripped up my feet like you wouldn't believe. Plus I got athlete's foot - gross, they probably let someone else try them before repackaging for retail!

They're better than spam-sox but I don't like them either. So thick, they're like wearing blankets on your feet.
I prefer Wigwam's Ultimax, with the ever-popular SmartWool a close second.
Exactly my preference. I wore Ultimax for the 50-miler. That was a total of 10 stream crossings with no blister problems at all. I changed them for a dry pair at 20 miles and at 40 miles. I probably could have gone the entire way with one pair, but changing socks gave me a good excuse to stop and sit. ;-) I bought my last batch here - http://tinyurl.com/zyu4d
Last week the SmartWools were down to $3.96/pr at Sierra Trading Post - http://tinyurl.com/qkvuy. Now they're $4.95. Still a good buy.
Can't say that I've had that problem since wearing them. Don't know really much about socks in general other than a friend told me they are similar to the Coolmax brand. I've worn the Active Dry now for quite some time with good success and at the price, I can't complain.
But as a runner, I'm really just starting out and am only doing 5 miles a day. But so far, no atheletes foot! hehehee!
