Good cycling books?

Here's a recommendation on what not to buy. I got a copy of The Art Of
Urban Cycling through amazon.com. I was expecting good stories of the
things that happen cycling in traffic. Talk about a dissappointment.
Some examples of the contents, chapters/sections on
- running red lights (dissappointingly the chapter is on why you
shouldn't 🙂 )
- hand signals (I can think of a few that weren't included)
- railway tracks (how to cross them not how to ride along them which
would have been far more entertaining)
- breathing strategies (and I always thought the idea was just that you
should do it)
- and a whole heap of other boring historical [censored] to fill out the book.

Anyone come across a good set of stories of riding in traffic? If there
are any books by couriers that would be spot on.

Read "A Significant Other" recently - follows Victor Hugo Pena (sp?) through
the tour de france in which he held the yellow. It was pretty good.

Cant help with any recommendations, but read the same Lance book last
weekend. I am very 'web site' when it comes to reading anything, if I cant
finish it in 30 seconds I move on... The story of Lance's background,
cancer, and the TDF etc blew me away, I could not put it down..

The Rider by Tim Krabbe is very very good, While The Yellow Jersey by Ralph Hurne (i think) is ok.

I heard good things about the book Rough Ride. A former pro´s take on the sport and drugs.

Dont know how good it is but there is a new book by Michael Barry called Inside the Postal Bus. All about the Posties and Lance id guess. Thats if you want more of the whole following the life of a pro type book.

This book was awesome. I can't say the same for the second
one "Every Second Counts".

I loved Graeme Obree's autobiography "Flying Scotsman" too.

French Revolutions by Tim Moore is a great read, laugh out loud stuff - a
similar
style to Bill Bryson. A good bit of TdF history as well.

Another one I bought is Smart Cycling by Arnie Baker. It's got a good
explanation of race tactics and lots of good training workouts.
