  1. I am thinking about picking up an all in one home gym. I was thinking
about getting a BodyCraft Galena, does anyone have other suggestions?

    Thank you.

You are about to get a whole lot of recommendations for freeweights,
freeweights, freeweights. Then one guy will recommend kettlebells.

How much are you expecting to spend?

Wow. First of all thank you for the quick response. This is my first
time on this newsgroup ( or any for that matter ). I am spending around
700-800? I would even go with used equipment also.

    Thanks again.

I spent about that on my setup. cage, oly set, dumbell handles,
    bench.

Most of the stuff here: http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/

Buy the weights locally, shipping is a LOT.

I agree. If, however, space is a critical issue, I'd change that to
    Powerblocks and incline bench.

The swiss army knife approach to gym equipment desgn is the ultimate
marketing man's dream. Total [censored] sold to unsuspecting, ignorant people.

Real exerciseinvolves doing real movements. Where real weights move through
    the air.

Equally predictable is the OP's only reply ... to the one person who
told him what he wanted to hear. Same as it ever was. At least it
    wasn't a Blowflex.

  15. Tekguy, there is no shortage of used home gym equipment in basements across
America, bought with good intentions but abandoned after a few weeks. You
should be wary of adding to it, particularly if you are, as I suspect, new
    to resistance training.

I suggest you spend about a hundred bucks rather than the 600-700 you
mentioned. That sum will get you a simple barbell/dumbbell set and a chinup
bar. With no more equipment than that, you should be able to get a pretty
darn good workout. And I am sure this group will have plenty of advice
about how to use it effectively. Make a commitment to work out with your
new equipment three times a week for ten weeks. At the end of the ten weeks
you'll be in a much better position to assess whether this weight training
thing is for you, and if not, you'll only be out a hundred bucks rather
    than six hundred.

That much money would buy you one helluva home gym using free weights.
Some benches come with leg extension/curl attachments and a lat pulldown
    bar.

Good advice. Don't add to the population of unloved gym equipment.

Actually I like the old swingbell handles from York better than
kettlebells anyhow. I bought 135# in metal plate, a long dumbell (it can
hold all the weight) and a swingbell with spring clips. I can work
pretty much everything with this set-up.

Total cost would be $85 CDN - about $70 real dollars.
