"Les deux stages effectués cet hiver, trois semaines en Afrique du Sud
puis deux semaines à Majorque (Espagne), ont été profitables à Ullrich
dont "la condition physique est cette année bien meilleure qu'en
2004", a estimé Walter Godefroot, son ancien manageur personnel devenu
co-manageur de la formation. "Il a bien travaillé en décembre. Nous
sommes prêts à attaquer", a-t-il ajouté."

Souds like it could be Pevenage speaking though. Still good to see we
won't have the usual "Ullrich is too fat" talks around here this year
    !

  2. On espere qui'l sera en forme vers l'ete.

    We won't? HA!

It's not like we haven't heard, "this year it's going to be different" from
    Jan and his people before.

Jan still has plenty of time for a destructive binge.

I thought he year before that was different because he was in better
    shape than usual.

It's really pretty hard to tell since we don't have access to his
weight, his ride logs etc. We judge him based on pictures and his
results. That's not always an accurate reflection of his fitness. It's
claimed that he did poorly in the TdF last year because he was sick at
the beginning. Maybe so. Or maybe he just wasn't as well prepared as
he might have been. We can argue it either way without settling anything.

ALL the threads make more sense if you're taking drugs. Except the one
on watts per hour. I think that's just a bunch of people putting

If he were to win the Tour this year everyone would be saying he only won
    because Lance wasn't there.

Let me put out a question raised by a French friend of mine. Ullrich comes
out of the old East German Sport machine with its rampant drug use/abuse.
The question he raised is how much of his 1997 Tour showing is related to
the continued and/or lingering effects of drug use from the EG system? I
doubt that effects would have lingered that long to be of assistance.

Now, my question is, have the records of Ullrich in the EG program ever been
    discovered and/or released?

    been discovered and/or released?

    Compare him to his contemporaries.

Born in Feb 1973, he would have been 17-18 when the EG 'sports machine' was
(being) dismantled. I remember talking with Jens Fiedler at the worlds in
1990 where he commented it would be the last worlds for the EG team.

Off the top of my head and by scanning the rosters of the end of the 2004
    year UCI points, you have:

    Michael Rich
    Thomas Liese
    Jens Lehmann
    Erik Zabel
    Uwe Peschel?
    Olaf Pollack?
    Andreas Kloden?
    Jens Voigt?
    Jens Heppner?
    Carsten Podlesch?
    Petra Rossner?

None of these riders have shown a particular decline in personal performance
that cannot be attributed to age. Even Ullrich only dropped from 1st in the
TdF in 1997 to second until last year, 13 years after East Germany was
    dissolved.

I don't see much here to support those theories/accusations of residual
effects of the EG sports machine.
