I am heading down to Cambridgeshire next week to see my folks and friends in the area. I will be riding Hooves1.5. If any of the more southern urc-ers would like to meet either me or the bike, then I'd be more than willing to meet up. Cambridge is cycleable, as is Peterborough. I'll be in Buckden which is a little south of the A1 / A14 crossover / chaos point.

There will be loads of riders there on Sunday 24th - it's the London to Cambridge. Any chance you can stay on a bit for that?

The Cambridge Bent Friday Ride group would very likely be interested in meeting up. You could join the mailing list at http://nomadicshock.com/mailman/listinfo/cambent or I can post there on your behalf.

Have signed up. Will mail them when it's confirmed. Do you frequent the rides?

When the ride heads east. I'm working some distance from Cambridge at the moment, so it's only practical to meet if the peleton heads in my direction.

I'd be interested too. (Last night I stuck a cardboard crank-sized circle to my hypothetical chainline. Even with short cranks, there's going to be a lot of heel/front wheel overlap unless I put the bottom bracket quite a bit higher. But looking at some photos, and thinking about the tryout session, it needn't be a problem. Guy, if you could retake images/gchn-5g8ggb/$file/stinger-2.jpg with the crank 90 degrees anticlockwise for comparison.... :-) )

If I can't find anyone to go sailing with next week[1], I may well cycle up to my parents South of Peterborough. A mere 250km so I'll probably chicken out.
[1] Urgent plea for anyone with free days next week who fancies some sailing!

From the south coast (Solent?) presumably? Love to go sailing, but that's too far to cycle. OTOH, if you want crew for a trip to France or the Channel Islands I might brave the railways. (CV: once had a half share in a Sigma 33, doing the east coast sandbanks and North Sea races.)

bah! I was in your neck of the woods for the last few days and thoroughly envious of all the boats out on the Solent (spent Wednesday morning at Lepe).

From my limited experience of having ridden a few 'bents that suffer heel overlap it's not really an issue unless you aren't paying attention when making sharp low-speed turns.
As to meeting. Will you come along to the ride? Are you local? If the weather's good I'll out riding a fair bit, so I'd be more than happy to meet up somewhere.

I work in Cambridge (near the station), live about 15 miles out to the east-northeast. I'll find out more about the Cambent rides from Mike.
(Work isn't doing the London-Cambridge as a team this year, and I haven't done anything about entering on my own, but if people are meeting up at the end I could make that.)

Do you have to be any good? I've got some days off next week, but I've never actually been in charge on a boat.
Also, I've already committed the time to helping poor disadvantaged youngsters or indoctrinating them or summat, so I guess it's a no-no.

Well, looks like I'll be sailing rather than cycling. Although I will be going to the Lord's Test at the end of the week and London is /only/ 70 or 80 miles away. Hmm.

Sadly, I need to be back in work on Monday morning so I probably wont be able to be around for the end of the London-Cambridge as I'll be on a train.
