I was interested, and eventually I got myself an invite. But now that I
see the GMail product, not so sure I want to use it. Forgive me, but
what is so special about GMail, besides the bazillion megabytes of
storage they'll give you? I am actually concerned that their "search
for everything" strategy is weird, and I like good ol' fashioned folders
for my saved mail. Their bizarre no-folders search-everything
delete-nothing strategy scared me off and I have not used my GMail once,
despite activating the account.

I'm sure there are other forums for this kinda thing, but you brought it
up here, so I'm askin': what's so special about G-Mail?

It sounds like "G-string".

The free gig and the threaded message view are about the only benefits. That
and the fact that google wrote it so it's easy to extend and interface to
(see the various notifiers that are available).
