Hi After a long day of hill walking, my knees feel like they
have a fluid retention, although after i run, i don't get
this. My mother has arthritic joints & i am concerned about
if i am next in line! Does running cause arthritis or remedy
it & prevent. Should i take glucosamine or cod liver oil to
help & do these products work! Thanks Gary

No, jogging doesn't cause arthritis. It does however, cause
shame, low self esteem, unlikeability, impotence, and
atrocious fashion sense. -

Glucosamine works for both me and my horse. Use the stuff
with chondritin. -

It does not cause arthritis but if you have it, it will
aggravate the hell out of it. Running strengthgens
healthy joints.Quoted message said:

long and want to increase my odds. Some people knock on wood
others wear a St. Nick around their neck. Is the glucosamine
helping me? I ain't got the faintest idea. Glucosamine is a
good non stomach irritating anti inflammatory. The notion
that is causes your meniscus to regenerate is somewhere
between BS and Smokey mirrors. -

i take it usually also. but, the fact is, it's unproven.
just a lot of anecdotal "evidence". stuff plenty good enough
for prevention magazine but not really science. to me, it
looks like something to try. it's cheap enough. i forget if
it was glucosamine or chrondroitin that was bad for you if
you had high blood pressure. might be worth investigating if
you're hypertensive. ...thehick -

that hasn't been working for a whole lot of years now. We
(your wife and I) all know it's never cuming back again. -

No scientists have yet published peer-reviewed results of
clinical trials; in fact the first rigidly designed trials
have only begun recently. The consensus seems to be that glucosamine probably won't
hurt, there is a good bit of anecdotal evidence that it does
help a fair proportion of those who try it, there is
speculation that it slows down erosion of cartilage, and
there is general scepticism that it promotes regeneration of
cartilage.

quoted by Noakes), but the first is incorrect (ibid.) If
anything, it seems that running slows the progression of
arthritis even after you've got it.The mental obstacle of going running when your joints are
hurting before you start, however, is pretty big.--
