I'm not interested in padding. What sort of glove should I get for summer?

i am curious to know what the benefit of wearing gloves are to ride

as i never get blisters is there any other reasons

    thanks craig

I use gloves so my fingers don't get cold. never really had a problem with blisters. But I live in a cold area

  5. I like the tan lines.

you use your hands every day, its a good idea to keep them protected if you intend to keep using them!

+2 I used to have a collection of old gloves with holes in the palm. Some still had blood stains.

  7. Riding too long without gloves can even be dangerous because it can damage the median nerve that runs in the webbing between index finger and thumb, which causes numbness that can take extremely long (weeks or months) to recover. Bicycle gloves have special padding that protects the hands. Another reason for the gloves buying is opportunity to hurt hands when falling. How will you wash your hands and face with your both hurt hands?

    9 cycling gloves tips

    1. Don't only rely on your gloves. For hands protection change grasp of the handlebars every fifteen- twenty minutes. Handlebars with bar-ends are optimal for this. You also can set end handholds which allow to vary hands position on the handlebars, the same as bar-ends

    2. Every 30 minutes take a hand away from the handlebar, drop and shake it so as to relax the muscles and speed the blood up.

    3. Make sure that your seat is correct and too big weight doesn't fall on your hands.

    4. Dropsies on the hands are the true sign of the fact that the gloves don't suit you. Try another model.

    5. The simplest way to take your gloves off is to turn it inside out.

    6. Wearing gloves it is quicker and safer to look for something pierced a tyre. The glove will touch it and you'll feel that.

    7. Wash your gloves more often because they get dirty quickly when you wipe your face with them.

    8. Have your hands frozen? Stop and make some circular motions in order to speed the blood up or warm them up under your arms (or in any other warm place 😉

    9. Remember when you're riding your hand size will increase slightly

My summer gloves are the fingerless jobbies (Trek by Design I think) with nylon webbing and some terry backs so you can wipe your snotty nose.

I have another set of winter gloves (Shimano Dura-ace) that stop my fingers dropping off. These are windproof style gloves which are great at keeping your hands warm but could use a bit of terry toweling on the back :-)

I wouldn't ride for more than 5 minutes without gloves, as my hands get slippery and I like the extra padding. If I ride for more than about 20 minutes my hands start to get pretty sore without gloves.

    cheers,

    dave.

When you are so drunk that the beer bottle you are holding just slips right out of your hand..

A truly terrible affliction and damn waste of fine beer. Drink more wisely!

  14. Mostly because of blisters or irritation from gripping for so long. If you don't have that problem your fine without obviously. They can add extra grip. I prefer to wear them.

  15. I just bought a pair of brand new sport gloves for the winter. In addition I have previously bought a pair of hand warmers working with a couple of batteries to keep my hands warm even in the colder weather.

  16. They can help to prevent blisters forming, but you said that you don't really have that problem.

Some gloves help with grip, but I haven't actually found a whole lot of people who have that problem while riding either.

Overall, I just wear them in the winter when I don't want my fingers getting frozen.

  17. Gloves for me are a necessity simply for grip purposes in the summer, and warmth and grip in the winter.

I'm obviously talking about gloves specifically made for cyclists though, and not a pair of woollen ones your mother knitted for you!

  18. "In a race, a rider, I won't name him, but hes an Aussie sprinter with a cracked vertibrae. Stopped, did a [censored] and then wiped his behind with his gloves and abandomed them."

    Socks.

That's what your socks are for.
