  1. Okay I've made my decision and this weekend I will attempt my first
crit. My aim here is to enjoy myself (within reason), and if I get
dropped wihtin the first 10 mins that would not be considered enjoying
myself. Now I see that Glenvale goes down to E grade although there are
only a handful in it. So I'm wondering whether I should go E grade or D
grade (which has a lot more riders to hide behind). Dutch/Jazmo what are
your thoughts seeing you've got an idea of what level I'm at?

One other thing, according to the website it says $20 for a day license.
Is that all it costs or is it the day license plus an entry fee?

Top stuff Dave, now we just have to get Brett going 😄
You won't get dropped in the first 10 mins because its a controlled start.

The latter, so you'd be up for $30.

How fast are you compared to the Dutchy of, say, 3 months ago?

Could sit on his wheel as long as he was at the front doing the work and
not also wheel sucking. Although not sure about how I'd go for 55min plus 3.

Well look, if it's your first one, it wont hurt to enter E grade and get
some pointers. I think they are shepparded around for the first half of
the race by a more experienced rider? Perhaps rock up on the day, tell
them you're a virgin and see what they say?

Cant give you any advice other than to chase down anything that moves.. even
in the first 10 mins 😉

which, anyone know a good route to this place from our Donny start that will
get us there at about 8:30ish?? I might do some research and bring a map..

Does Springvale Rd. hit Doncaster Rd.? Coz Glenvale Cres. is just off
    Springvale Rd. in Mulgrave.

    Hmm.. whereis.com.au says:

Well, it's the most dangerous road in Melbourne for cars, statistically,
but if you're okay in traffic it's no bother. I ride it a fair bit and
probably see less fools there than on Whitehorse Rd.
People probably get freaked coz it's 70kph, 80kph a fair bit??

Take Blackburn Rd, it's a 60 limit (not 70 or 80), plus there's bits with Bike lanes. Then turn left into Wellington Rd (just after you pass Monash on your right), then right at Springvale Rd, then first left after that is Glenvale.

Guys I'd be inclined to go Doncaster Rd to Blackburn Rd and the down
Blackburn rd to Wellington Rd and then left to Springvale and continue
South to Glenvale Cr. I find Blackburn Rd a bit smoother, less traffic
    and occasional bike lane.

I agree with Dutchy, I haven't raced E grade before, but having looked at it, I don't think you'll get much of a real feel of what the racing is all about. I would also gather that if the D grade field split apart like last week, you'd end up finding your own group (whether it's the first or last) anyway.

yes I was laughing at that too after I posted and saw my alter ego had
suggested exactly the same route. 🙂

dont worry! once you get there and sign in, the route's easy.

Go along Glenvale crescent and turn...

left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄

Cheers DaveB/Shabby... map printed.. not that I should need it.. 🙂

Looks like a nice BR route will be: Donny start as usual, then the route
suggested to Glenvale Cr, then how about following Springvale Rd after the
event down to Beach Rd then back through Mordi to the city? I might have to
get myself some aero bars and bootie covers to fit in on Beach Rd.. 😉 ..
I think that route should give us roughly the same kms as a normal BR..
    without the hills! woot!

I think there's actually supposed to be a bunch ride from Glenvale Cres that does exactly that. After all the racing is done some riders head down Springvale road and then down beach rd to Black Rock or St Kilda. Haven't actually been on that ride though.
