You can drive to just south of Monar Lodge.

I should have mentioned that as it is to be frosty with some snow
showers in the next few days this road will not be gritted nor
ploughed. The Hydro Board vehicles use it but they wont be out as early
as 6.30am.

Thanks for the traffic news, if the road needs ploughed I've picked the
wrong day! I'm not expecting anything more than a dusting on the tops.

No, but as its a combination lock I'm guessing it will be on all night, if
not then I'll suppose I will have to wait until 7:30 - 8 a bit late for a
big winters day out! Anyway I'm intending leaving home 2 ish so should be
there the back of 6

Stuart - If you have been given the combination for the lock by the
MCofS you can gain entry at anytime. However I am advised that this
combination changes regularly. (whether it does or not I don't know).

The Gate Keeper is only employed from around April to October and when
they are in charge you cannot get in till 9am and that is on the
permitted days. I think they have one day off and on a Sunday it
isn't open till the afternoon. You also have to be out by 6pm.

Therefore if you have the combination you will have no problems.

It is better going between November and March than during the rest of
the year as there is no restrictions on time etc. then.

As we had to admit last October 28, hurrying down the glen at 5:55pm,
having queued at 9:00am to be let in 🙂.

At 6am the gate was wide open, so didn't even slow down, when leaving 5pm
ish I couldn't let myself out, two combination locks but neither worked for
the code that I had been given two days previously by the SMC, luckily I
didn't have to wait long, a local leaving just a few minutes behind me let
me out, she informed me she didn't the SMC's lock was on this year! So if
you are going, becareful, access is still dodgy!

Anyway Glen Farrar, what a glen and what a way to approach Maoile Lunndiadh,
this IMHO is a far better approach than the trade route up that track from
the north side!

Stuart - are you contacting MCofS and notifying them as I would
interested in their response.

Probably going into Strathfarrar beginning of the year.

I had the code for last week and managed to exit on Tuesday and
Thursday evening without any problem. The combination lock is though
very sensitive and the numbers have to be lined up exactly to get it
to open [also needs a bit of a tug] If anyone else is going in it is
the Brass combination lock with the dials on the end [think it was
3rd or 4th lock of about a dozen!] Gate seems to be open most
mornings to allow contractors access for work on the various Power
Station refurbishments that are ongoing at present.

I was also in last February, on that occasion although gate was open I
did check that I had the correct code for the lock before entering -
after 10 mins was cursing MCofS until I realised that I was trying to
open the wrong lock!
