Giant TCR Advanced

In my opinion, I think it's hard to find fault with any new bicycle costing over $2.5k new, unless of cource the bike is not suited to the kind of riding you're intending.

I've recently been throwing a leg over various bikes in a quest to get into a roadie (complimenting my 2x current MTBs) & I found the geometry of the TCR as direct comparison to Giant's OCR to be steeper head angle & maybe even alittle lower headset to seat config. Sure all this can be tailored with replacing the headstem for something taller & other mods, but from one off the floor TCR to another OCR that's what found with the 3x TCRs & 2x OCRs I sampled.

Funny thing I find is that alot of road bikes have pretty tall gearing generally speaking, seeing how they mostly end up travelling in the 27-35kms/hr range. You may be able to use the tall gears down some hills or grind away in the midst of a peleton, but alot of road bikes I see about spend majority of their time in the bottom 3rd of their ratios.

There are some quite expensive bikes that are not at all difficult
to find fault with! And $2.5k is not an expensive road bike, alas.

Oh, I didn't realise the road racing scene in Aust was that big...... :o

I haven't seen every Giant dealer in Melbourne, but I know Lawrencia are hard to beat

You obviously don't follow my commute route on the way to work.. Everybody
is up for racing I swear...

Today is another recovery day, so I sat behind 'Fassa Bortolo' letting him
dictate the speed.. he spots me.. I back off.... giving him 10m or so.. no
worries.. few kms later he tries to drop me on a few 100m long rise.. his
legs start flapping (knees out style).. arrrr good stuff, always up for the
challenge.. recovery on hold.. I give a friendly wave and dish out some
punishment for trying to drop me.. he was cool - and I'm sure he enjoyed
the company...

I'll have to make an effort to catch-up with all the other regulars I see on
this route one day.. It'll have to be a day off work so I can turn around,
catch up to them, and say hi... there is one guy in Fitzroy Cycles kit who
never fails to nod... come to think of it, I haven't seen "i'll scoot
around corners really fast" recumbent man for a while.. he might have
evolved into the upright position!

Having just moved to a 2005 TCR 0 from a conventional framed Trek 1400,
the Giant did take some getting used to.
Firstly, the compact geometry means your riding position is different -
not necessarily worse, but it took me a month or so to feel
comfortable on it.
Second, the insane lightness of the bike makes it quite lively in the
handling department. You've got to pay attention at all times. The Trek
wasn't nearly as demanding. That said, however, it's great to ride and
I don't curse as much climbing hills ;-) Acceleration is also
outrageous.

If you can get a 2005 model TCR 0,1 or Advanced, I'd snap it up.
I notice that Giant has downspecced the TCR 0 for 2006 - gone are the
Ksyrium SLs (Elites are in their place) and gone are the composite
stem/handlebars (replaced by EA50s). It is $1000 cheaper though!

sounds like Gardiners Creek Path, although I don't remember any 100m rises.

I used to commute to the city (Melbourne), and coming home (south east), the Swanston/FLinders intersection is fairdinkum a STARTING GRID!!! 😄

I've gotta say though, some of those bussinessmen could torch plenty of Beach Road Bullies 🙂

not hard to want to beat them with a large stick either..

IMHO for the best Giant prices around see Lygon Cycles.. offer to pay cash
and see how far you can talk them down 🙂..
