  1. Hi guys I'm new here.........so be gentle! I'm looking at buying my 1st full-suspension mountain
bike. I've narrowed it down to the Trek Fuel 80 and the Giant NRS3. Both cost the same at $900 and
both have the same front fork (Rockshox Pilot SL). I'll be using it on logging roads some single
track, etc. Nothing radical. I'm 6'5" and 220lbs. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  2. As said 1exp6 times before here, which fit you the better, the Trek or the Giant? I believe the
Giant suffers the lesser "bob", even I bought a Trek (Fuel 90) a couple of years back, because it
fit me the better than the Giant (NRS2) I looked at at the same time.

Either spend more, or get a hardtail. $900 isn't enough to get a decent FS. IMHO...

Ronbo, I'm also about the same size and (after doing a bunch of research on the net) I was
disconcerted about the number of accounts I read regarding the Trek's breaking.

If you ride mostly fire roads it might not be an issue, but the more rough singletrack you plan to
hit, the more I would be concerned about durability.

Haven't heard much about the Giant's durability.

The NRS 3 is the exception to that rule; it is not spec'd relatively bad in that price point.

Nothing short of astounding. I have about 20 customers riding various NRS models, and no complaints,
    in fact, effusive praise!

Yep - they make an excellent bike, and stand behind it as well.

  8. I've been riding my Giant Ds1(now the Nrs) since 2000,and have not had any major problems.Only,I
weigh signifigantly less(148lbs).I have been riding/racing Giants since 1993.I am planning on buying
another this yearend too. Also as said before they have great customer service from my experience.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have also read about people having problems with Trek frames. It's
just hard to know how those guys are riding them. But I also thought it might be an indication of
quality that the Trek frame is American made and guaranteed for life whereas the Giant frame is made
in Taiwan and only guaranteed for 5-years.

I thought Trek was made overseas too?

Better fit being first, this is the second reason I went with my Trek Fuel
90.I do mostly XC, no big jumps, etc. I weigh 185 lbs. I'll check out the NRS2's again though if I
    get another bike.

I owned a Trek 80 first then a year later got an NRS3. From the moment I sat on the NRS I knew I
would prefer the ride. I am fond of hardtails, and the NRS comes close to that (zero bob on standing
climbs/sprints at 20 lbs over my weight in the rear shock) with a lot of the comfort and benefits of
the FS. If not those two, a good HT with a Thudbuster is nice too.
