Call your doctor first thing tomorrow morning. Say *exactly* what you say here. And ask about the
possibility that you're really Type 1. Your doctor might have really good reasons for thinking that
you are in fact Type 2. However, at your age, Type 1 is more likely, and if that's what you have,
all the exercise and oral meds in the world won't help; you'll need insulin.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.

  4. If you not overwight you might have Type 1 coming on. Check with your doctor after you have taken
many test during a day to see what blood sugar is doing.

As soon as you finish reading this ring your doctor for an appointment today or tomorrow. I'm T2,
but from what I've read from OldAl and others, you want to be sure to ask the doctor to review your
type and treatment. Good luck, let us know how you go.

    Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

There is more to diet than eating fast acting sugars. In fact, that really has nothing to do with
it. it is carbs in general that cause high BG. Eat too many carbs, regardless of the source and
you'll have high BG. What worries me though is your age. Are you sure you are type 2 and not type 1?
If you are type 1, you could have a honeymoon stage where your pancreas slowly burns out. While this
is happening, you could appear to be type 2 because it could appear that oral meds are working for
you. But once the pancreas is totally burned out, you need insulin. Without it, you'll soon have
    very severe problems.

Are you seeing an Endocrinologist? If not, you should be. In the meantime, contact your Dr. and tell
him or her of the high numbers. You don't want to continue running that high because your body is
being damaged. Also, how was it determined that you have type 2? Often it is assumed that people
over a certain age or who are overweight have type 2. This isn't always the case. We have at least
two people here who were presumed to be type 2 when they were type 1.

Your post fits the profile of an adult-onset Type 1. If so, that means insulin very soon. In
fact, If so, you might have been ready for insulin six months ago.

A Type 2 diabetic your age should be substantially overweight, have been overweight most of his
life, and rarely gets any exercise at all.

I am an adult-onset Type 1, first diagnosed as an adult-onset Type 2. That led to a very miserable
year as the oral meds did less and less and I was forced to try to control sugars by massive amounts
of exercise and stringent diet. That's "try to control", I really didn't.

    Old Al

There is a possibility - about 18% - that you have Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adulthood.
Oversimplifying a bit, that is t1 in extreme slow-motion, and it very definitely looks like t2 to
    start with.

The younger you are, the quicker it runs, because old farts like me have a well-worn immune system
that attacks the beta-cells less vigorously. A young fresher like you would usually expect to start
insulin about 9 to 15 months after dx.

See an endocrinologist, and ask for the following tests C-peptide - should be positive GAD-65 -
should be negative HLA-DR3 - should be off HLA-DR4 - should be off Those tests will confirm for sure
whether you are t1, t2, or LADA.

Underweight and exercising and spikes up to 350 sounds even more like LADA to me. With spikes like
that you run a risk of Diabetic Ketoacodisis, so may I suggest you get a box of Ketostix? Pee on the
stick, shake off the excess, wait 15 seconds, and check the colour. Since you don't need to lose
weight, but gain it, you want to see no colour change at all. If you do get a deep change, get thee
    to the ER asap.

Obviously I am not fit to diagnose, even if I were an endocrinologist I wouldn't try over the net. I
just offer what pointers I can.

That doesn't sound ANYTHING like a T2 profile to me. In fact it sounds very similar to MY profile
when I was dx as a T1 at FORTY years old, not in my early 20's.

I think you need to get back to quacklet and ask him whatever the hell makes him think you're a T2.
Then, when he picks hisself up off the deck, find a new one:-)

I'm serious here..... if you're T2, I'll eat whatever you want (scrotum's already gone, I ate that a
month ago-) and if you're only taking oral meds, your sugars will NEVER be right. My own (ex doc)
thought I was T2 (age y'see) and put me on a few tabs, but when went (myself) to the hospital 2
weeks later to see why my sugars never dropped below 60, I was a little more reliably informed that
I was T1 and in a bad way. At the PROPER dx time, my sugars were over 65 and still climbing and I
stank like a pear drops factory:-)

This is just to let you know that doctors DON'T always know what they're doing!!!. Go back to yours
and give him/her another chance to do a proper

    away from my wife:-))

Still here at the computer? Have you already seen the doc, or is that tomorrow?

Anon, Tristan, mate, listen to what they are telling you. Get to the doc.
