Hi guys, I'm wondering whether I really give my all or keep too much back in reserve. I'm a 3rd cat and I'm pretty comfortable in 3rd cat races. I haven't got any placings yet (only done 4-6 races). I know all about keeping near the front , preserving energy etc etc but I often think negatively.
Example: once I attacked and two of us got away for three laps (crit) then was caught by a group but I didn't really dig deep to stay with them hoping the following bunch would pull them back. They rolled away with 30sec gap. My FT is probably 310watts and once recovered should've chased but again thought I'd blow up so didn't. Doh!! game over. The breakaway stayed clear and mopped up all the points. I should be better at this,🙁 after 3 years its getting frustrating since I know with all this good training (2 x20' sweetspots L5's I'm usually one of the strong 3rd cats when racing.
Another time four of us were away (2nd group on the road) and with 6 laps to go I attacked the group to shake off two of the weaker riders. I only attacked tentatively then recovered quickly but didn't attack again despite the weak guys still being there Doh🙁. Came last in the sprint😠
Should I just designate a race as training and attack constantly just to see what I'm capable of coz the truth is I don't know.
I read about Dr Andy C winning races with 'the energiser bunny approach' There's been a few races where I' haven't been 'redlining it' and have wanted to try - too scared though:o I don't wanna become a TT man cause I love RR and crits... Oh I'll shut up now!...All ideas welcome, cheers🙂
