  1. Okay, I reread the atkins section about fat and I am realizing that
while I have been diligently doing atkins induction for almost 2 weeks
my fat content is really low. The only thing I do that has any fat is
the salad dressing I use on my salad at dinner and the maynaise on a
tuna salad. Did anyone else find themselves having a had time with
this? I don't even have any full fat cream cheese in my house and my
sour cream is fat free just because I am in such a habit of buying fat
free. I did have jello with whipped cream tonight but after I ate it
my mouth had a greasy coated feeling, like it just was really odd to
    eat fat.

How would a person get more fat without adding carbs? I usually just
use a teflon pan to make eggs so I will try frying them in butter,
yuck🙂 and once I am done with induction I can add part of an avacodo
or something but that still is not a lot of fat.
    Thanks for suggestions.

Eggs have about 5g fat per large egg, tuna has a little too. You could
also eat more fatty fish like salmon, and get rid of the fat free cheese
and get the real stuff. There's also beef, pork, and chicken. When you
are ready to add more carbs, olives and nuts have the "good fats."

ARe you eating any meat? Beef, pork and chicken all have fat. Some types
of fish have lots of fat. Olives, avacodo, cheese, etc have fat. Ditch all
of the fat free stuff like cheese and sour cream and get the real thing.
Put oil on salads, use nuts, too. Dressings and mayo have lots of fat,
typically (assuming you don't use fat free dressing).

Are you using fitday.com to track your fat? I kinda get the feeling you
don't really know how much fat you are getting.

  5. Thanks, went to fit day, basically decided I have to throw out low fat
salad dressing etc, I do eat enough meat but just am in such a habit of
cutting out fats that it is hard to get used to the flavor that fat
adds to food, although it does taste better than it did before I began
    LCing

Atkins says ditch carbs, not fat

Try beef/lamb/pork(eg bacon), normal fat cheese, cold water fish eg salmon,
avocado, low carb salad dressings, DIY low carb mayonnaise, etc

    <snipped>

use olive oil instead!! and drizzle olive oil and lemon juice on your salad
might help - I guess it would be healthier than using bottled salad dressing, at
least there won't be as much additives as the salad dressing.

Now that you understand this, be sure to keep an eye on how much you are
eating. Eat slowly to ensure that signals of being satisfied have time to
reach your brain. NEVER eat until your belly is full. Try to eat each meal
so that you are hungry by the time of your next meal. Even though your
carbs are under control, it is still possible to eat too much to prevent or
    slow weight loss.

You may find that as you add more of "the real thing" to your woe, that
you prefer the taste. Have you ever read the ingredients list of the "low
fat" things that you purchased regularly? Most products add a bunch of
other things to make up for the lack of flavour and texture of fat.
Because fat is calorie dense (i.e. a small amount by volume has a lot of
calores - 1 tbsp olive oil has 120 calories for instance) it really only
takes a little bit added to satisfy.

One tablespoon of olive oil in a dressing on my salad turns a 'wimpy
salad' into a "real meal" in my experience.

    Best of luck to you.
ps the above post reflects my own opinion and experience. I'm not a
doctor, lawyer, PhD, just a satisfied customer 😉

I never buy fat free anything. Most of the time, it increases the
carbs. You are missing the very thing that makes this eating plan so
    great - taste.

Don't forget that with lowfat or fat-free dairy (and other) products,
you are potentially sabotaging yourself because they usually have more
    carbs/sugar.

  12. There is enough fat in natural foods that we don't need to go out of our way
to add more. Fat is still a concentrated calorie. Use butter and mayo, but
just enough. I was going though way too much oil on my salads- toss your
salad in a separate bowl, and you don't need as much.

Try some of the good fats, nuts, avocados and coconuts are taboo on low fat
diets. It may be a long lost favorite.

In case someone only reads 1/2 of Atkins, you might miss the point of
reducing the fat when you start reintroducing carbs to get your CCL. In
other words don't exceed your daily intake of calories.

A good rule of thumb is your weight x 10=your daily calories. If chosen
wisely- that can still be a lot of food. Induction, we don't worry about it-
your just adjusting, but when you move on to OWL

WWW.atkins.com has a very good section on fats- also the atkins university
(same site) will teach you a few things, like what happens when you overheat
your oils. Soybean oil is fine but guess how they refine it!

  14. It occurs to me that you are also the person who posted not long ago about
constipation. Now we discover that you are trying to restrict fat while
    also trying to restrict carbs.

Hmmm....too little fiber, not much fat.....hmm....sounds like the reason you
might be constipated too. did you solve that problem?

Did you really read the book?

  15. learning to STOP thinking low/no fat is a big challenge for new
    lowcarbers.......................
many, including me had a little trouble with it.
start adding cream cheese (full fat) to
things......................make SF jello and add half cream cheese.
    use more mayo (full fat).
learn to make gravy with sour cream(full fat).
    hope this helps!

  17. It is good that you recognize your need for fat. Doing low carb and low fat
at the same time usually fails.

Heavy cream, mayonnaise, coconut milk, cheeses, low carb ice cream, butter,
    salami, pecans

Low fat products should be thrown in the trash can.

    Avoid trans fats.

We should talk more here about transfats. I've been doing some reading that
says ALL transfat should be avoided. Meaning, just the least little bit can
be harmful in the body in teh long term. It is not a matter of simply no
getting too much (like might be the case for sat fat), for any amount of it
    is harmful.

This means that there are very few prepared products you can eat -- all of
these have transfats. I'm constantly shocked by the stuff that has
transfat; everything I find something low carb, that I can cook easily, it
    has transfats.

I'm confused. Are you talking about store bought products? Yeah, you can't
eat that. The issue of shelf life means the vast majority of that stuff
    will have transfats.

Why not learn of ways to cook for yourself? For example, on weekends when
you have more time, cook up a bunch of chicken breasts and freeze some of
them. Make a big pot of soup and freeze some of it. Combine these with
salad and other raw veggies and learn to eat simple meals. It doesn't take
long, really. You've just got to dedicate yourself to the notion - put your
mind to it. Those who want to get a thing done, do so. Those who don't,
don't. That's how you can tell the difference. 🙂

Still, more and more prepared products are becoming available that say on
the label "No Trans Fats". So, over time, things will improve.
