You need to stop riding with these girls because you're making the macho men look bad.

Yeah I know! My wife is an average looking grandma of 9 so not many guys think she can be a strong rider. But Aimee runs marathons as well. She can be extremely strong when she's in form. Tammy in the video was getting in saddle time to do the Iron Man she completed last November. So the gals are stronger than some men would expect.

One time just my wife and I were riding. We caught a small group of men in a pace line. Maybe 5 guys. 2 of them felt threatened so they races around us. they faded after 1/4 mile then we caught up again. That time I lifted the pace just to play games with their heads. We ended up passing them on a short uphill ramp of 40 yards maybe. One guy laughed as my wife passed him and said, well I'm fast on the downhills!". 😄

The other guy started shouting, " F#C F#CK F#CK!!!!". That's when I first realized how serious "some" men take getting chicked.

  2. You're right, I suck as a rider. You can tell that from my posts. I am getting old and cracking 10 hours on a double is not as easy as it used to be. I do feel old and sucky.

I just don't get your point. I looked at your videos.

  3. No, I don't get calling either rider a [censored] and if I was behind the four of you, I would get ahead of you because of how the four of you are riding. Sorry you don't like my opinion. Call me names, who cares.

  4. I rode 41 miles this morning. It was 37 when I left but warmed up to 48 F. It was fairly windy, but I used this shorter ride for my interval training pushing up the hills and into the wind. I didn't want to go out for another long one. That will be later on in the week. Saturday is supposed to be really cold, not even get up past 34 with a low of 8. Brr!

I take it he is not. Only two reasons one can think this way. He sucks and thinks this is acceptable normal behavior. Or he's just wanting to stir the pot in which case leads me to believe he has an attitude like the [censored] rider in the video. 🙄

No, I wouldn't say that. I was riding with these old farts one Saturday. They were so slow I decided to leave them as soon as I recognized some familiar territory. I finally pulled off and a guy and his wife decided to follow me. The guy passed me and rode up front but was weaving all over the road. His wife was a lot better rider than he was. When he finally moved to the left, I passed him on his right. He immediately got [censored] and accused me of practicing an unsafe bike maneuver, even though he couldn't ride a straight line if he tried. I informed him that I was merely pulling through on the right, the proper riding protocol in a pace line. He mumbled some more, and I put the hammer down. I never saw them the rest of the day, nor did I ever ride with that squirrelly old farts group, again.

I saw where you mentioned you've done a 1200k. That's something in my book. The most I ever rode was 150 miles, but I bonked after 125 miles, making my last 25 miles very painful. When my wife asked me how my ride was, I only mumbled, too tired to talk.

I used to ride with this guy from NC. He rode with this really pretty, but hefty blonde. She was one helluva rider, and he was no slouch. When either one of them got out front, I just sat in their slipstream. It was easy sailing from then on.

Like I said, your reading comprehension and video comprehension is lacking.

Pay attention now! We catch some guy from far behind. He messes up our line then races around. He repeats this process several time. Obviously we are doing a faster pace. His best bet is to allow us to pace if he is concerned with his safety knowing he can not hold our pace.

So you think it's an intelligent thing to do, interfere with someone else's line? then race around only to do it several more times?

If so, you're just as stupid as the guy in the video!

Wow, I guess I am supposed to be impressed! I've ridden with many double riders ( California Triple Crown riders) . One a Furnace Creek 508 rider and multi time RAAM finisher. So don;t expect me to be impressed with you because I rode with centuries with several doubles riders and ate them for breakfast! 😄

  10. Reminds me of the cartoon: "I can beat you, no you can't, I can beat you, more."

OK,now is that a little different from a "faster" group catching you from a mile behind, then hopping on the back and racing around several times? Over and over? 🙄

I've had groups pass me, and I have hopped on the back of these groups. Heck, I've had riders yell out, hop on. I have no problem with that. I'll even be glad to pull for them when my turn comes. That's the way it goes. Granted, I never saw the need to shotgun off the back and pass the whole group, though. You get reeled in quite rapidly. Ask me how I know. The rider you encountered may have been a relatively new rider, who figured he could take you guys on but found out the hard way, the stupidity of his move. You shouldn't worry about it too much because let's face it. We all ride for fitness and to have fun. Just go out there and have fun.

Well some guys here play their "I do doubles" comments trying to impress us. The problem with doubles and brevet riders is that they suck wheel for most their rides. I do all my centuries solo. Not to mention 98% of the time I ride with people I am at the front.

So you get these guys that think they're hot stuff sucking wheel 95% of the time boasting about doubles who really can't do their own work. Having been on the forums over the years I have had plenty of double riders criticize the trail we ride on as being too easy. I've had them challenge me on rides to prove a point. Like I said, I ate them for breakfast! A couple to them kept up for a while because they were sucking wheel but once you put them out front, toasted! They get too used to sucking wheel to survive those long rides.

I'd do a 5:45 century at cruising speed solo. One double rider on another site started talking trash about doing a double with back to back 5 hour centuries. Started telling me my rides were too easy. Of course I just ride with my wife not thinking of every ride as a training ride. So he went on and on about how tough a ride he was living near Santa Barbara where it is all wind and hills. He challenged me to a race! Because I did all easy rides. I went to his home town to do a century with him. No contest! He wanted a second chance so we did it again, even bigger no contest! 😄 The only time he kept up was when I let him ride my wheel. At one point he pulled a stunt of racing around and trying to drop me after 80 miles. So I let him hang for a couple of miles then blasted his doors off as I passed him. I cranked it up to the end of the ride then sat down and had a picnic till he arrived 30 minutes later.

So much for those double centuries sucking wheel for 10 hours. :p

I don't have a lot of folks to ride with where I live, other than the group that comes out every Saturday unless they are elsewhere on a tour ride. I do centuries by myself as well. I plan to do my first brevet in March, hence my long distance riding right now. I have done longer miles but not where you run around with a card and get a control to sign it that you were there. More than likely, I won't be able to ride at the pace they are setting so I will be out on my own, just like I am out there training for this ride. The course, I will be on has some fairly rough sections of roadway, broken up and split from ice and snow, lots of hills so it won't be a nice smooth route like you find on city streets. I hope to do it in 10 or 11 hours, well within the 13.5 hours they give you to ride it. Brevets are not supposed to be races, but you know how that is. I used to do centuries in a little over 5 hours, but that was a long time ago. I'm happy to do what I do.

Good, next time I'm out in CA, I'll gladly let you pull all day.:p

Riding with a group is fun! I most times hold my wife's pace so we get a lot of riders who like to ride with us. Especially women over the years. A few have been single attractive female so we end up getting other guys to ride along! Funny when smelly stinky men show up for a ride wearing cologne and coming their hair happening to forget their helmets. :p

On Saturday we were leaving our rest stop when one guy started telling Aimee how gorgeous she was. She just rode on with a smile but I don't doubt the guy shows up for a ride. I almost wonder if he saw her on my blog and decided to show up at the rest stop where we hang out. It's happened before.

I really do find it hard to find partners for rides though. I once rode with a guy who did doubles, Went by SemperFi on the forums. Perfect ride partner. Steady and good etiquette. He ended up with some family problems so i think he vanished from the scene. Another time I rode with a guy who planned to do the Triple Crown. I thought OK let's give it a try. He sucked my wheel for 60 miles then sprinted around. WTF! He wouldn't take the lead earlier claiming he couldn't keep the pace, then he raced around on the final 1/2 mile.

After that I just started showing up at centuries alone. One time I went to Arizona to do a ride. I was doing fine alone on the first 2/3 of the ride till some dude asked me to ride with him. I really didn't want to but he kept on telling me how we could do well together. I figured he was a stronger rider as he caught me from behind. But we started working together and ended up with a 20 MPH average. That was cool but I don't find many good partners on rides. Most of them want to suck wheel then race around when it should be their turn to pull. By the time you catch them again, they pull off the front. 🙁 So I prefer to do my own thing.

I am aiming for this one in June! It will be my 5th time completing it!😎

  17. Just found out a friend signed up for this one so I may change my plan. I have only completed this once. But I hate the preregister thing knowing it might rain or snow the day of the ride at this altitude. It's a month earlier and has a rep for cold weather. The Bear is a month later and the weather is usually nice if not warm. Although it did rain on me the first 20 miles last time I did it. 😠

I know you are preparing for a 200k and based upon what I have read, you have it in the bag. Don't worry. If you want any ideas let me know, but you are GTG. Yes, did 1200K Randonnees and I have done 1230k with 37,000 feet of climbing in under 55 hours and am considering RAAM but success rate at my age is very low. I've done 400K in 13 hours and change and very recently did 200k, 300k, 400k in 6.5, 11, and 16 hours (slow ride with 2 hours off the bike). I've only managed to break 24 hours on a 600K...solo. I suck.

The ride I'm doing in March is actually 128.5 miles because they set it up with a store at the turn around point, since it's an out and back. The best time I ever did for a century was 5h 10 min, but I was in my 40's then and riding with a fast group. I'm 70, now and was sidelined due to health issues so I've been riding hard for the last year and a half to make up for that. Even in my heyday, your time of 6.5 for a 200k is very impressive so don't shoot yourself down for those efforts. Hopefully, it will be a lot warmer, March 19, the day of the ride and maybe I can average 17 or so and hopefully find a good group that is compatible with me. It's the up and down hills that usually drop me from the pace line since fast climbing has always been my downfall.

If you come to California try the Cool Breeze double metric. I did it before. 126 miles (exact?) with 7600 ft. They may have changed the numbers a bit. But it is a very popular ride. I did it once but like many of the popular rides it was overcrowded. But should be fun for a visitor.

How much climbing in your March ride?
