First they decided 'predict and despoil' was unsustainable. But they were young, naive and
idealistic then.

Then they decided that a 'limited' billion or so would solve our problems.

Now they have sold out to the roads lobby and we are back to massive despoliation.

Well -- I suppose they have to have roads to store all the cars on while they are not going anywhere
because of all the traffic cones.

Given the Government's stated aim of boosting sustainable transport, this can only be good news!
Clearly they must be planning to match this with equal funding for sustainable transport, otherwise
they will never achieve their goals.

It is an appalling waste of public funds.

All they need to do to solve the motorway congestion problem is build a few high speed rail lines.

I would have thought the problem was the common factor in your first 5 examples. Why do successive
goverements keep spending my money to cure congestion that I never see, can't they spend the money
of the people that are causing the congestion? If there is congestion in/around London, either tax
Londoners until they can afford to cure the problem or until enough people move away from London to
cure the problem.

Bang on. The only jams we ever het in Southampton are usually the result of roadworks.

You would have to start by not encouraging them to go there in the first place before you can begin
to reverse the process.

There must be tens or even hundreds of thousands of "Londoners" whose entire families (outside of
their own nuclear unit) live elsewhere in the country and are only living there because they can't
get the sort of work they're looking for elsewhere.

If we could find a way of luring these people back to their roots and then initiating the reverse
process that would be progress.

1) Birthright
2) Care of the elderly
3) Geographic distribution of population
4) Age distribution of population
5) Immigration
6) Emigration

...although it would need a particularly imaginative politician to sell the idea.
