I think people like to make fun of this show becaus it's such a
trainwreck. I have found some of the discourse more entertaining
than the show, itself. That being said, it is on-topic since it is a
cooking show, is it not? Can you not kill a thread with your

Sole is lovely just fried gently in some good butter and a good

    O

I agree, and will probably only coat minimally in crumbs and pan fry in
butter or a butter/olive oil mix and sprinkle lemon juice over the fish when
it's done. Capers (I'd have to go to the store, not in the mood for that)
are optional. A nice wine and lemon sauce is nice but not essential.

I was raised on chili *with* beans, ground beef. Of course you couldn't
exactly call my mom's chili "chili". 1 lb. ground beef, 2 cans kidney
beans, 2 cans Campbell's tomato soup, 2 soup cans of water. I don't
think she even added salt or pepper. Uh... love you Mom but please tell
me you aren't making chili 🙂

Personally, I don't care if the meat is ground or chopped, as long as
there is plenty of it. I like beans, too.

My mom's chili had a bit more flavor and more ingredients; sauteed chopped
onion and garlic, 1 lb. ground beef, 2 cans kidney beans, 1 can Campbell's
tomato soup, 1 can tomato paste, 2-3 tablespoons chili powder, 1 teaspoon
powdered cumin, 1 bay leafm, a bit of black pepper, but no salt. I
believe she added 1 soup can and 1 tomato paste can of water. It was a
rather thick chili, and pretty good.

Beans, but not too many... without the beans it's simply meat sauce,
with too many beans it's simply non-vegetarian stewed beans. My recipe
is in the R.F.C. Cook Book... naturally mine is the only real chili

ain't any kind of chili, in fact creating such a monstrosity is a food

yes, but cable tv has a lot to reccomend it, watching a rerun of "The

History Channel (we get three of them)
    Travel Channel
Discovery (we get four or five of them, especially like Discovery HD)
    Learning Channel
    Food Channel. (I like Unwrapped)

You sound like my hubby, Edwin. He is adamant about no beans in chili. I
grew up with beans in chili, but it's a moot point; I can't stand the stuff
    anyway.

People who insist that "true" chili cannot have beans rank extremely high on
both the "boring" and "wrong" scales.

LOL! My family are MS natives and, AFAIK, never made chili. My mom got
the simple recipe she used from a neighbor when we lived in St. Louis, MO.
Macaroni or spaghetti was never added by anyone I knew. My first encounter
with that was during a visit to Cincinnati where, of course, Cincinnati
chili originated. Can't say I liked the stuff. It wasn't the pasta I
minded, but the seasonings which included a significant amount of cinnamon
    and chocolate.
